The cultural centre works under the ICCR\u2019s\naegis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tripathi, who is the author of best-selling books like the Secret of the\nNagas and Sita &#8211; Warrior of Mithila, would take over from diplomat Srinivas\nGotru. Gotru\u2019s four-year tenure ended early this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sahasrabudhe said that Tripathi will bring more visibility to the ICCR\u2019s\nflagship cultural centre. \u201cWe want every centre under the ICCR to be more\nvibrant and proactive to generate a proper understanding of the Indian culture\nabroad,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He added that the selection process for the director\u2019s post involved an\napplication for it followed by an interview with a selection panel. \u201cIt is a\nroutine process and Tripathi was chosen on merit,\u201d said Sahasrabudhe. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Nehru Centre was founded in 1992 with Gopalkrishna Gandhi as its founder\ndirector. Playwright-actor Girish Karnad has been among the prominent people to\nhave helmed the centre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most of Nehru Centre\u2019s directors have been political appointees. Diplomat\nPavan Varma was the first bureaucrat to head the cultural wing of the Indian\nhigh commission in London.
