{"id":2999,"date":"2019-07-01T08:27:51","date_gmt":"2019-07-01T08:27:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=2999"},"modified":"2019-07-12T08:51:33","modified_gmt":"2019-07-12T08:51:33","slug":"west-bengal-launches-free-crop-insurance-scheme-for-farmers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/west-bengal-launches-free-crop-insurance-scheme-for-farmers\/","title":{"rendered":"West Bengal launches free crop insurance scheme for farmers"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>West Bengal<\/strong> Government\nlaunched a crop insurance scheme, Bangla Shashya Bima (BSB).<br>\nThe reason for the launch of 2019 &#8216;Kharif&#8217; season is to protect farmers from\nlosses due to natural disasters.<br>\nTheir main aim is to provide a steady income in case of unstable market prices.&nbsp;<br>\nThe scheme launched in collaboration with Agriculture Insurance Company of\nIndia (AIC).<br>\nThe crop insurance scheme is &#8220;free of cost for farmers&#8221; as the state\ngovernment would pay the entire premium.<br>\nThe crops include Aman and Aus paddy, jute and maize under the scheme.&nbsp;<br>\nThis scheme is applicable for farmers in 15 districts.<br>\nThose districts include Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim\naardhaman, Purba Medinipur, Malda, Hooghly, Nadia, Murshidabad, Cooch Behar,\nBirbhum, Purulia, Dakshin Dinajpur, North 24 Parganas, and South 24\nParganas.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are\nthe important features and highlights of Bangla Sasya Bima (BSB) Scheme:-<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Type of Scheme<\/strong> \u2013 Bangla Sashya Bima Scheme\n     is a crop insurance scheme for farmers.<\/li><li><strong>Company to Provide Insurance<\/strong> \u2013 Agriculture Insurance\n     Company of India.<\/li><li><strong>Districts Covered<\/strong> \u2013 Darjeeling, Kalimpong,\n     Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Purba Medinipur, Malda, Hooghly,\n     Nadia, Murshidabad, Cooch Behar, Birbhum, Purulia, Dakshin Dinajpur, North\n     24 Parganas and South 24 Parganas.<\/li><li><strong>Premium Amount<\/strong> \u2013 Free of cost for farmers\n     as WB state govt. will pay full premium<\/li><li><strong>Crops Covered for Insurance<\/strong> \u2013 BSB scheme in West Bengal\n     to cover aman paddy, aus paddy, jute and maize.<\/li><li><strong>Eligible Beneficiaries<\/strong> \u2013 All farmers taking loans\n     (granted \/ applied for) and even those not taking loans can avail Bangla\n     Shasya Bima Scheme insurance benefits.<\/li><li><strong>Stages for Payment of\n     Insurance<\/strong> \u2013\n     Under West Bengal Bangla Shashya Bima Yojana, the insurance would be paid\n     in 4 stages as mentioned below:-<ul><li>For any losses suffered\n      during planting<\/li><li>Losses suffered during\n      cultivation<\/li><li>The losses occurred during\n      the period post-cutting when crops are lying in the field<\/li><li>Losses caused due to\n      adverse weather situations.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong>Amount Calculation<\/strong> \u2013 The state govt. of West\n     Bengal will decide the amount of insurance which would be calculated on\n     per hectare basis.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This BSB\ncrop insurance scheme will enable farmers to cover up their losses in case\ntheir crops gets damaged due to any reason. The state govt. wants to raise the\nannual income of the farmers and to enable them to lead a life of dignity and\nhonour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Farmers\nplays a very important role in the GDP of the state as well of the entire\ncountry. So, the state govt. is focusing on raising their living standards\nwhich will ensure higher GDP in the coming years.\n\nFurthermore, West Bengal govt. wants to reduce\nthe suicide rate of farmers which occurs when farmers suffers from losses in\nagriculture.
