{"id":3023,"date":"2019-07-02T02:54:13","date_gmt":"2019-07-02T02:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=3023"},"modified":"2019-07-12T08:46:14","modified_gmt":"2019-07-12T08:46:14","slug":"pm-modi-gives-clarion-call-for-water-conservation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/pm-modi-gives-clarion-call-for-water-conservation\/","title":{"rendered":"PM Modi gives clarion call for water conservation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Prime Minister Narendra\nModi today called upon people to start a mass movement for water conservation\nand resolve to save every drop of water amidst water scarcity in several parts\nof the country.<br>\n<br>\nHe said an awareness campaign should be started which should\nnot only focus on water-related problems but also propagate ways to save water.<br>\n<br>\nMr Modi was addressing the nation through Mann Ki Baat\nprogramme on All India Radio for the first time after resuming office for the\nsecond term. He said, society must be united in this endeavour and people\nbelonging to social and cultural organizations should lead this movement in\ntheir own fashion.<br>\n<br>\nPrime Minister Modi also requested the people to share\ntraditional methods that have been in use over the centuries for the conservation\nof water. He asked the people to pay a visit to &nbsp;Porbandar to see a\n200-year-old water tank which is still capable of storing water and has a\nmechanism to harvest rainwater.<br>\n<br>\nMr Modi also requested the people to share the information\nconcerning people who are making significant contributions towards water\nconservation. He urged people to use #JanShakti4JalShakti to share their\ncontent on the matter.<br>\n<br>\nListing the initiatives taken by the people for water\nconservation in many parts of the country, the Prime Minister said there cannot\nbe a single formula for dealing with water crisis throughout the country.<br>\n<br>\nHe said, water scarcity affects many parts of the country\nevery year and it is surprising that only eight per cent of rainwater is\nharvested.<br>\n<br>\nKeeping the importance of water in mind, Mr Modi added that a\nnew Jal Shakti ministry has been created in the country to allow faster\ndecision-making on all subjects related to water.<br>\n<br>\nHe said he wrote letters to all the Sarpanchs and Gram\nPradhans asking them to convene a meeting of the Gram Sabhas and discuss the\nsolution to water problem with the villagers.<br>\n<br>\nSaying that water is of great importance in Indian culture,\nPrime Minister quoted Rigveda&#8217;s Apah Suktam.<br>\n<br>\nTalking about International Day of Yoga which was celebrated\nrecently, Mr Modi said awareness about Holistic Health Care has enhanced the\nglory of Yoga.<br>\n<br>\nHe highlighted that Yoga has assumed such an iconic form that\nover the Himalayas, across the Indian Ocean, from air-force to aircraft\ncarriers, from air-conditioned gyms to hot desert and from villages to cities &#8211;\nyoga was not just practised but also celebrated collectively. &nbsp;<br>\n<br>\nHe stressed that healthy and sensitive denizens are required\nto build a healthy society and Yoga ensures this very principle. Mr. Modi said,\npromotion of Yoga is a great example of social service. He cited examples where\nYoga training is being imparted in Japan, Italy and many other countries.<br>\n<br>\nHighlighting the importance of democracy, the Prime Minister\nstated that in order to ensure smooth conduct of the social order, a\nconstitution is required. He added that India can proudly proclaim that beyond\nlaws and rules, democracy is embedded in its culture and a part of its heritage.<br>\n<br>\nHe said during Emergency, there was an outrage in the\nconscience of all and the collective torment on the loss of democracy was\nevident. Mr Modi said people must keep reminding themselves that the country&#8217;s\ndemocracy is gloriously great. He said the recently concluded Lok Sabha\nelections witnessed 61 crore voters exercising their franchise.<br>\n<br>\nThis figure is more than the entire population of America and\nexceeds the entire population of Europe. Prime Minister underlined that this\nstands for the sheer size and spread of India&#8217;s democracy. He also highlighted\nthe resources and manpower involved in the mammoth exercise.<br>\n<br>\nUrging the people to choose books over flowers in welcome or\nfelicitation ceremonies, the Prime Minister mentioned about the stories written\nby famous Hindi writer Premchand and said their messages are still relevant. He\nsaid his stories like Eidgah, Pus Ki Raat, Nasha, show images of the stark\nsocial realities that exist and are expressions of human emotions through a\nsimple and lucid language.<br>\n<br>\nMr Modi also mentioned Akshara Library in Kerala which lies\nin a village nestled within the dense forests of Idukki.&nbsp; A Primary school\nteacher, P.K.Muralidharan and P.V.Chinnathampi who runs a small tea shop, work\ntirelessly for this library which is a beacon guiding tribal children on a new\npath. He urged people to make reading a part of the daily routine.<br>\n<br>\nThe Prime Minister also said that he missed sharing his\nthoughts with the people on Mann Ki Baat.
