{"id":30567,"date":"2020-05-15T09:31:52","date_gmt":"2020-05-15T09:31:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=30567"},"modified":"2020-10-12T09:34:48","modified_gmt":"2020-10-12T09:34:48","slug":"lightweight-carbon-foam-that-can-replace-lead-batteries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/lightweight-carbon-foam-that-can-replace-lead-batteries\/","title":{"rendered":"Lightweight carbon foam that can replace lead batteries"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>CSIR-Advanced Materials and Processes Research Institute, Bhopal an recipient of the INSPIRE Faculty award instituted by the Department of Science &amp;Technology, Govt. of India is developing porous carbon materials which have the potential to replace lead grid in lead-acid batteries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The carbon foams are non-toxic, easy to fabricate, affordable, and insoluble in water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is cost-effective for the removal of arsenic, oil, and other metals from contaminated water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It can be used for heat sinks in power electronics, electromagnetic interference shielding in aerospace, hydrogen storage, and electrode for lead-acid batteries and water purification systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The carbon foam has been developed with a density of less than 0.3g\/cc, high porosity of over 85%, good mechanical strength.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The foam is highly resistant to corrosion.
