With this, Tamil Nadu became the fifth state in the country to\nannounce its state butterfly. Maharashtra was the first to declare Blue Mormon\n(Papilio polymnestor) as its state butterfly, followed by Uttarakhand (Common\npeacock), Karnataka (Southern bird wings) and Kerala (Malabar banded peacock).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Tamil\nYeoman<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Its scientific name is <em>Cirrochroa\n     thais<\/em>. It is also known as Tamil Maravan, which means warrior.<\/li><li><strong>Habitat:<\/strong> It is endemic to Western\n     Ghats. It occurs in moist deciduous, evergreen forests and along streams.\n     It can be found in groups in large numbers at a few places<\/li><li><strong>Features:<\/strong> It is tawny-coloured with a\n     dark brown outer ring. Its size is 60-75mm. It is fast and fly straight\n     with few wing beats and long glide.<\/li><li><strong>Larva:<\/strong> &nbsp;It lays eggs in\n     vertical chain of 8-10. Larva initially stay in group below leaf and often\n     in shady areas. They eat edges of soft tender trees. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Significance\n<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With such\ndeclaration, butterfly becomes pride of the state after. It also helps conserve\nits ecosystem and paves the way for eco-tourism. It also helps people to\nrecognize the importance of butterflies which subsequently helps in its\nconservation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Other\nState Species of Tamil Nadu<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>State animal:<\/strong> Nilgiri Tahr.<\/li><li><strong>State bird: <\/strong>Emerald Dove.<\/li><li><strong>State Tree:<\/strong> Palm Tree.<\/li><li><strong>State flower:<\/strong> Gloriosa.<\/li><li><strong>State fruit:<\/strong> jack fruit.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Tamil Nadu Government has declared Tamil Yeoman (Cirrochroa thais) as the state butterfly of the state based on the recommendation of state forest department.
