Around 8.21 lakh new members joined the ESIC-run social security scheme in March 2020, against 11.83 lakh in February 2020 as reported by the data released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) in a report titled ‘Payroll Reporting in India: An Employment Perspective-March 2020’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NSO data included the payroll data of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The data highlighted that the subscribers to the scheme in 2018-19 were 1.49 crore. This count increased to 3.83 crore in March 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It stated that during fiscal 2019-20, the number of net new subscribers increased to 78.58 lakh as compared to 61.12 lakh recorded by the EPFO in 2018-19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
