{"id":3095,"date":"2019-07-02T10:29:20","date_gmt":"2019-07-02T10:29:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=3095"},"modified":"2019-07-12T08:34:27","modified_gmt":"2019-07-12T08:34:27","slug":"telecom-ministry-forms-committee-under-telecom-secretary-aruna-sundararajanto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/telecom-ministry-forms-committee-under-telecom-secretary-aruna-sundararajanto\/","title":{"rendered":"Telecom Ministry forms committee under telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajanto"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Acknowledging that country\u2019s\ntelecom industry was under financial stress, Union Telecom Minister Ravi\nShankar Prasad had constituted a committee chaired by Telecom Secretary Aruna\nSundararajan to spell out revival plans for Telecom sector.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About\nAruna Sundararajan Committee<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Background<\/strong>:\nAs the Indian telecom sector is under stress for a long time Union Minister has\ndecided to deal with this issue now on priority basis thus for this purpose he\nwill be meeting all telcos \u2018at the earliest\u2019 to discuss various sectoral issues\nand also constituted Aruna Sundararajan Committee to look into entire issue of\nremoving ambiguities in ease of doing business and also to revisit the whole\nissue of SUC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Need<\/strong>:\nReduction of levies and fees, such as licence fee, SUC and universal service\nlevy, has been a long-standing demand of Telecom industry, along with review of\ndefinition of aggregated gross revenue and this will also be main focus areas\nof committe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Purpose<\/strong>:\nTo review levies, including spectrum usage charge (SUC), and promote Ease of\nDoing Business (EDB) in telecom sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mandate<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Committee\nheaded by Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan would submit its report in 2\nweeks\u2019 time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In case of any\nissues which require clarity, committee has been directed to seek views of\nSolicitor General.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Committee would\nalso look into previous recommendations provided by sectoral regulator TRAI\n(Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) on the issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Way\nForward<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Government of India is also looking into revival plan for state-owned BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited) and MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited) on priority and the details for that are being worked out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About Ministry of Communications &amp; Information Technology;&nbsp;<\/strong><br><strong>Headquarters:<\/strong> New Delhi&nbsp;<br><strong>Departments:<\/strong> Department of Telecommunications, Department of Posts <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Acknowledging that country\u2019s telecom industry was under financial stress, Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad had constituted a committee chaired by Telecom Secretary Aruna Sundararajan to spell out revival plans for Telecom sector.
