{"id":31500,"date":"2020-10-16T05:26:17","date_gmt":"2020-10-16T05:26:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=31500"},"modified":"2020-10-16T05:26:18","modified_gmt":"2020-10-16T05:26:18","slug":"cabinet-approved-demerger-of-nagarnar-steel-plant-from-nmdc-ltd","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/cabinet-approved-demerger-of-nagarnar-steel-plant-from-nmdc-ltd\/","title":{"rendered":"Cabinet approved demerger of Nagarnar Steel Plant from NMDC Ltd"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its \u2018in-principle\u2019 approval to the demerger of Nagarnar Steel Plant (NSP) from National Minerals Development Corporation (NMDC) Ltd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2020<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Key-Points<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Cabinet also approved strategic disinvestment of the demerged company (NSP) by selling the entire Government of India stake in it to a strategic buyer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NSP is a three million ton per annum (mta) Integrated Steel Plant being set up by NMDC at Nagarnar, Bastar District, Chhattisgarh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NMDC is a listed CPSE under the Ministry of Steel and Government of India has 69.65 % shareholding in the Company.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The process of demerger and disinvestment will be initiated in parallel and disinvestment of demerged company (NSP) is expected to be completed by September 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The proposal to demerge the NSP into a separate company before its disinvestment has the following advantages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>With demerger, NMDC can focus on its core activities of mining;<\/li><li>After demerger, NSP shall be a separate company and the managements of NMDC and NSP shall be accountable for their respective operations and financial performance.<\/li><\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its \u2018in-principle\u2019 approval to the demerger of Nagarnar Steel Plant (NSP) from National Minerals Development Corporation (NMDC) Ltd.
