Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and\nRailways, Piyush Goyal, has called for a Mass Movement to strengthen the\ncooperative sector in agriculture. Speaking at the curtain raiser event of\nIndia International Cooperatives Trade Fair (IICTF) in New Delhi today,\nCommerce & Industry Minister stressed the need for both Ministries of\nCommerce and Agriculture to work in close coordination to tap the true\npotential of the cooperative sector. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare,\nNarendra Singh Tomar, Minister of State for Agriculture, Kailash Choudhary,\nSecretary of Agriculture, Sanjay Agarwal and other senior officials of Ministry\nof Agriculture were present on this occasion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Piyush Goyal underlined the need to make farmers\nand agriculture-based industries self-reliant. He said that in the three\nconsultations held with the Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare,\nNarendra Singh Tomar, after the formation of this Government, both Ministries\nhave committed to establish a framework to double farm exports from Rs 2.75\nlakh crore to about Rs 7 lakh crore by 2024-2025. Piyush Goyal also announced\nthat a Cooperative Sector Export Promotion Forum will be established as an\nexchange platform for the cooperatives in India. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recalling the contribution of Sardar Vallabhbhai\nPatel in consolidating the cooperative movement of farmers, Piyush Goyal said\nthat agriculture is the priority sector for the Government and it is committed\nto double the income of the farmers by 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commerce & Industry Minister, Piyush Goyal\nsaid that IICTF is a unique concept and opportunity which will take the mass\nmovement of farm cooperatives to an international level. \n\nOn this occasion, the Commerce & Industry\nMinister along with Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare,\nNarendra Singh Tomar and Minister of State for Agriculture, Kailash Choudhary,\nunveiled the logo and released the brochure of IICTF to be held from 11-13\nOctober 2019 in New Delhi.
