It started in 1997 where \u201cWorld Forum of Fish Harvesters & Fish Workers\u201d met at New Delhi leading to formation of \u201cWorld Fisheries Forum\u201d with representatives from 18 countries and signed a declaration advocating sustainable fishing practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On 10th of September this year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the \u201cPradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana\u201d (PMMSY) at an estimated investment of 20 thousand 50 crore rupees for a period of five years from 2020-21 to 2024-25.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The scheme aims to achieve fish production to 22 million metric tonnes by 2024-25 and also to create an additional employment opportunity to about 55 lakh people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
