Jaipur, <\/strong>known for its iconic architectural legacy and vibrant culture, on July 6 made its entry into the UNESCO World Heritage Site list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJust inscribed as UNESCO World Heritage Site: Jaipur City\nin Rajasthan, India. Bravo,\u201d UNESCO tweeted on July 6 afternoon. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The announcement was made after the 43rd Session of the\nUNESCO World Heritage Committee (WHC), underway at Baku (Azerbaijan) from June\n30 to July 10, examined the nomination of the Walled City of Jaipur for\ninclusion in the World Heritage list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed happiness that the\ncity has been recognised as a World Heritage Site. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJaipur is a city associated with culture and valour.\nElegant and energetic, Jaipur\u2019s hospitality draws people from all over. Glad\nthat this city has been inscribed as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO,\u201d Mr. Modi\ntweeted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A senior official said, ICOMOS (The International Council on\nMonuments and Sites) had inspected the city in 2018, post its nomination. The\nWHC in Baku examined the nomination and inscribed it in UNESCO World Heritage\nSite list, the official added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The historic walled city of Jaipur in Rajasthan, was founded\nin 1727 AD under the patronage of Sawai Jai Singh II. It serves as the capital\ncity of the culturally-rich state of Rajasthan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe city was proposed to be nominated for its value of\nbeing an exemplary development in town planning and architecture that\ndemonstrates an amalgamation and important exchange of ideas in the late\nmedieval period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn town planning, it shows an interchange of ancient Hindu,\nMughal and contemporary Western ideas that resulted in the form of the city,\u201d\nUNESCO Office in New Delhi had earlier said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Jaipur City is an exceptional example of a late\nmedieval trade town in South Asia and defined new concepts for a thriving trade\nand commercial hub. In addition, the city is associated with living traditions\nin the form of crafts that have national and international recognition, it\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe World Heritage Committee is composed of representatives of 21 States Parties to the World Heritage Convention who meet annually. The Committee is in charge of implementing the Convention. To date, 1,092 sites in 167 countries have been inscribed on the World Heritage List,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Director-General of UNESCO is Audrey Azoulay. UNESCO works for peace and security by promoting international collaboration in education, sciences, and culture. This will increase universal respect for justice.

Countries that supported India’s nomination:<\/strong>
The countries that supported India’s nomination are:<\/strong> Brazil, Bahrain, Cuba, Indonesia, Azerbaijan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Zimbabwe, China, Guatemala, Uganda, Tunisia, Burkina Faso, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Angola, St Kitts and Nevis. Australia and Norway <\/strong>initially proposed a referral, but, after the debate, they agreed for the inclusion of Jaipur.

Jaipur:<\/strong>
The fortified city of Jaipur is located in Rajasthan. Sawai Jai Singh II founded Jaipur in 1727. The city has maintained its local commercial, artisanal and cooperative traditions.
Apart from an outstanding planning the city is known for its iconic monuments such as the Govind Dev temple, City Palace, Jantar Mantar and Hawa Mahal excel in artistic and architectural craftsmanship of the period.

Other Sites:<\/strong>
Myanmar’s Bagan, Megalithic Jar Sites in Xiengkhuang – Plain of Jars in Laos and the Archaeological Ruins of Liangzhu City in China are among the other sites that were included in the World Heritage List on 6 July. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
