{"id":3498,"date":"2019-07-09T09:21:45","date_gmt":"2019-07-09T09:21:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=3498"},"modified":"2019-07-11T15:36:08","modified_gmt":"2019-07-11T15:36:08","slug":"central-government-appointed-m-nageswar-rao-additional-director-of-cbi-as-the-director-general-of-fire-services-civil-defence-and-home-guard","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/central-government-appointed-m-nageswar-rao-additional-director-of-cbi-as-the-director-general-of-fire-services-civil-defence-and-home-guard\/","title":{"rendered":"Central government appointed M Nageswar Rao, Additional Director of CBI as the Director General of Fire Services, Civil Defence and Home Guard"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Nageshwar Rao has been shunted out from the Central Bureau of Investigation\nand has been appointed as Director General (DG) Fire Services, Civil Defence\n&amp; Home Guard, a post earlier offered to former CBI Director Alok Verma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, IPS officer M Nageshwar Rao had replaced his boss Alok Verma\non October 23 after a dramatic turns of overnight events when Alok Verma and\nhis deputy &#8212; special director Rakesh Asthana &#8212; were sent on leave amid an\nongoing feud between them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alok Verma was removed from the CBI just few days before his retirement by\nthe PM-led appointment committee and was transferred to Fire Services as DG,\nhowever, Verma offered his resignation and never took charge of Fire Services.\nNow, Rao has been given the same position which his former boss was given\nearlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nageshwar Rao was at the centre of CBI vs CBI controversy as a day after\ntaking charge as interim director, on October 24, he has transferred 13 CBI\nofficers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These transfers were revoked in January this year by Alok Verma when the\nSupreme Court reinstated him as CBI director. Verma&#8217;s order was however\nnullified by Rao on January 11 when Verma was once again removed and Rao was\nappointed as CBI&#8217;s interim boss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On January 21, Rao had again ordered transfers of 13 superintendents of\npolice (SPs)-rank officers and 7 additional SPs (ASPs). Most of the officers\nalso moved before the court and challenged their transfers by Nageshwar Rao. It\nwas alleged that in spite of Supreme Court\u2019s instructions, Rao transferred\nofficials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nageshwar Rao, the CBI&#8217;s interim boss, was first appointed to the post in\nOctober last year when the then CBI Director Alok Verma was asked to go on an\nindefinite vacation by the Modi government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The central government&#8217;s unprecedented order was issued after the tussle\nbetween Verma and CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana took an ugly turn and\nbecame public, tarnishing the CBI&#8217;s image.\n\nWest Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee had\naccused him of having links with shell companies at a time when CBI tried hard\nto seek custodial interrogation of the then Kolkata Police commissioner Rajeev\nKumar.
