{"id":3645,"date":"2019-07-12T10:29:42","date_gmt":"2019-07-12T10:29:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=3645"},"modified":"2019-07-12T10:52:33","modified_gmt":"2019-07-12T10:52:33","slug":"indian-air-force-plans-to-adopt-advanced-short-range-air-to-air-missile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/indian-air-force-plans-to-adopt-advanced-short-range-air-to-air-missile\/","title":{"rendered":"Indian Air Force plans to adopt Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Indian Air Force (IAF) is looking to adopt a new European visual range\nair to air missile across its fighter fleet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile (ASRAAM) of European\nmissile-maker MBDA has been approved for fitting on Jaguar jets and the IAF was\nlooking to integrating it on the Su-30MKIs and the indigenous Light Combat\nAircraft (LCA) as well, defence sources said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe ASRAAM has been chosen for the Jaguar and is currently undergoing\nintegration. First firing is expected by year-end,\u201d a defence source said. It\nwould be the first over the wing launched missile in the IAF inventory. All\nmissiles are now fired from under the wing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The missile was shortlisted through a tender and MBDA was working with\nHindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on the integration. After the initial\ntrials, further modifications on the Jaguar would be done by HAL. \u201cHAL is in\ntalks with MDBA for integrating the missile on the LCA and the Su-30MKI as\nwell. It will be taken up after the Jaguar integration,\u201d the source added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ASRAAM is widely used as a Within Visual Range (WVR) air dominance missile with a range of over 25km.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>HAL had built about 145 Jaguars for the IAF, of which around 120 are in\nservice, and 80 jets will continue till 2025-30.
