{"id":36928,"date":"2021-02-16T02:17:24","date_gmt":"2021-02-16T02:17:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=36928"},"modified":"2021-02-16T02:17:26","modified_gmt":"2021-02-16T02:17:26","slug":"a-rare-duck-created-a-flutter-in-upper-assam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/a-rare-duck-created-a-flutter-in-upper-assam\/","title":{"rendered":"A rare duck created a flutter in Upper Assam"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Floating in the Maguri-Motapung beel (or wetland) in Assam\u2019s Tinsukia district for over a week is the spectacular and rare Mandarin duck.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/category\/daily-quiz-2020\/daily-quiz-january-2021\/\"><strong>Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2021<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>First spotted on February 8 by Madhab Gogoi, a Tinsukia-based birder and tour guide, the duck has since become the star of the wetland \u2014 an area affected by a blowout and fire at a natural gas well located close by in May 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Considered the most beautiful duck in the world, the Mandarin duck, or the (Aix galericulata) was first identified by Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist Carl Linnaeus in 1758.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a \u201csmall-exotic looking bird\u201d native to East Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The migratory duck breeds in Russia, Korea, Japan and north-eastern parts of China, explained Gogoi. It now has established populations in Western Europe and America too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The duck, however, rarely visits India as it does not fall in its usual migratory route.
