{"id":4001,"date":"2019-07-23T10:03:53","date_gmt":"2019-07-23T10:03:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=4001"},"modified":"2019-07-23T14:46:47","modified_gmt":"2019-07-23T14:46:47","slug":"13th-edition-of-the-annual-global-healthcare-summit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/13th-edition-of-the-annual-global-healthcare-summit\/","title":{"rendered":"13th edition of the annual Global Healthcare Summit"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Shri Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the 13th edition of the annual Global Healthcare Summit organized by the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), with the lighting of the traditional lamp and delivering the keynote address at the Taj Krishna Hotel in Hyderabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am glad to learn that AAPI serves as an umbrella organization with a\nNetwork of over 160 chapters across USA,\u201d Mr. Naidu told AAPI delegates. \u201cWe\nare indeed proud of our doctors and healthcare practitioners who are rendering\ninvaluable healthcare services in countries across the globe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Naidu devoted a good amount of his speech about the great traditions and\nthe greatness of Indian culture and the civilization of India. Pointing out to\nIndia being one of the greatest civilizations, that has given birth to renowned\nmedical practices and higher education before any other nation, Mr. Naidu&nbsp;\nsaid, \u201cIf you want to go abroad, go learn earn and then return,\u201d he quipped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Calling upon the Physicians of Indian Origin to rededicate their lives for\nthe wellbeing of their motherland, India, serving 130 crore people who need their\nservicers. Mr. Naidu asked of the AAPI delegates not to forget their: Mother,\nNative Place, Teacher; Mother Tongue and Culture and Traditions of India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his welcome address, Dr. Suresh Reddy, President of AAPI, said, \u201cThis GHS\nhas promised to be one with the greatest impact and significant contributions\ntowards harnessing the power of international Indian diaspora to bring the most\ninnovative, efficient, cost effective healthcare solutions to India.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cApart from conducting CMEs, seminars and workshops, AAPI must consider\ncollaborating with various governments and other private organizations in\nestablishing a state-of-the-art healthcare facility in each district of the\ncountry where affordable treatment is dispensed,\u201d the Vice President of India\ntold the delegates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vice President praised AAPI and its noble \u201cmission for India is to play\nan important role in making quality healthcare accessible and affordable to all\npeople of India. It is indeed a laudable objective as both accessibility and\naffordability are the need of the hour, especially in a vast developing country\nlike India with a huge population of middle class and lower middle class.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOnly a healthy nation can be a progressive and wealthy nation,\u201d the Vice\nPresident of India, said. \u201cIndia has launched \u2018Ayushman Bharat\u2019, touted to be\nthe world\u2019s largest health insurance scheme, under the aegis of which 10 lakh\npeople have already received free treatment under the scheme,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Describing that India\u2019s healthcare sector as grappling with inadequate\npublic spending, low doctor-patient ratio, high share of out-of-pocket\nexpenditure, inadequate infrastructure in rural areas, lack of penetration of\nhealth insurance and inadequate preventive mechanisms, Mr. Naidu said, \u201cWe face\na huge shortage in the number of qualified medical practitioners in India,\nespecially specialist doctors. It is crucial that we address this huge gap in\nthe supply of trained healthcare practitioners by opening more medical colleges\nand increasing the number of seats at both graduate and Post graduate levels.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vice President of India urged all medical practitioners of Indian origin\nworking across globe, to collaborate and work with our government and academic\ninstitutions to make Indian medical education world class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Naidu called upon AAPI to \u201chelp in promoting the use of telemedicine in\nremote rural areas which lack access to healthcare facilities. Telemedicine can\nbe used effectively in radiology, cardiology, oncology, dermatology and a few\nother areas. It will help in reducing unnecessary visits to the hospitals for\nconsultations with specialists and avoiding long distance travel,\u201d Naidu said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Naidu said that India needs an affordable health care revenue model to\nmeet the challenges of modern day lifestyle. The Vice President called on the\nmedical fraternity to put in efforts to bring down the costs of medical devices\nto make healthcare affordable. He further said that youngsters are increasingly\nfalling prey to ailments due to a variety of factors, including sedentary\nlifestyle, improper dietary habits and job-related stresses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe must all focus more on the service. The medical service in India is the\nneed of the hour. India is still lagging behind in spite of a lot of\nadvancement in medication. The Center is encouraging private sector in the\nmedical healthcare sector,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Claiming that India has the potential to become a medical tourist center in\nthe future, the Vice President said accessibility and affordability of\nhealthcare should be ensured as a large section of the country`s population\nbelongs to the middle and lower-middle class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vice president said that while India is progressing economically and\nincomes of people are improving, the common man is unable to meet the medical\nbill whenever there is a medical emergency in the family. With penetration of\nhealth insurance remaining quite low and majority of the Indian population\npreferring to seek medical treatment from private sector in health emergencies\nby spending from their own pockets, this problem gets compounded, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Naidu urged the Centre and state governments to invest more in the\nhealthcare sector and educate people to get health insurance. Stating that\nproviding proper medical service is the need of the hour, Naidu on Saturday\nsaid private sector investments and Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model\nshould be encouraged more for the betterment of healthcare in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe central and the state government must together spend more in the health\nsector. Also people should be educated about getting health insurance. Many\npeople in India are worried about the cost but health insurance is very much\nrequired,\u201d Naidu said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Observing India has made great medical advancements in recent times, the\nVice-President said, \u201cAlong with strengthening our Primary Health Centres, we\nmust explore innovative, out of box technology solutions such as tele-medicine.\nI appeal all the doctors to visit a School every week to counsel children on\ndangers of lifestyle diseases and unhealthy dietary habits.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pointing out that modern lifestyle has made people shun physical exercise,\nNaidu advocated some sort of physical exercise and spiritual activities during\nthe day which may help keep people fresh and stress-free.&nbsp; \u201cThe sedentary\nlifestyle of Indians have to change and doctors and scientists should educate\npeople,\u201d he said.&nbsp;Naidu said there were 69.1 million cases of diabetes in\nIndia, according to a 2015 census, and called for the need to create greater\nawareness among the youth about the dangers of sedentary lifestyle and eating\njunk food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe modern day lifestyle is creating serious health hazards. The doctors\nshould indicate the people to go back to their cultural roots and follow the\ndisciplined, systematic lifestyle. Diabetes is a major challenge faced in the country,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pointing to studies, Naidu said, \u201cIndia\u2019s burden of diseases has shifted\nfrom communicable diseases to non-communicable diseases as incomes rose over\nthe last 26 years. More deaths (61.8 per cent) were caused by non-communicable\ndiseases such as cardio-vascular diseases and chronic obstructive pulmonary\ndisease in 2016 as against 53.6 per cent deaths due to communicable, maternal,\nneonatal and nutritional diseases in 1990.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The groundbreaking Global Healthcare Summit (GHS) organized by AAPI in\ncollaboration with the Government of India, BAPIO &amp; GAPIO, as well as Host\nAlumni Chapters, including OGKTMA, ATMGUSA, KAMCOSA, and GMCGA, will have\nparticipation from some of the world\u2019s most well-known physicians, and industry\nleaders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A major theme and focus of the 13th annual Global Healthcare Summit is on\nWomen\u2019s Health. A team of physicians, consisting of women leaders of AAPI,\nincluding Drs. Sangeeta Agrawal; Uma Jonnalagadda; Soumya Neravelta; Stella\nGandhi; &nbsp;Swati Yalamnchi; &nbsp;Pooja Kinkhabawala will lead the sessions\non Women\u2019s Healthcare Needs.&nbsp;&nbsp;In addition, a day-long session on\nRural Health Education will be held at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in\nHyderabad&nbsp;on July 22nd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Seema Arora, Chair of AAPI\u2019s BOD, summarized some of the achievements of\nAAPI including the 16 free healthcare clinics, AAPI\u2019s legislative initiatives\nin the US, and the ongoing collaboration with the government of India and the\nstate governments and several NGOs in helping healthcare efficient and cost\neffective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his address, Dr. Prathap C Reddy, Founder-Chairman of Apollo Hospitals,\npraised AAPI\u2019s efforts to help India through its Healthcare Summits in making\npolicies in healthcare delivery more effective. Describing AAPI\u2019s efforts as very\nsignificant, Dr. Pratap Reddy highlighted the Seminars and workshops at GHS and\nhow they help train the physicians and upcoming new generation of physicians in\nIndia, by transferring knowledge and expertise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Sreeni Ganagasani, Chairman of GHS Convention said, \u201cThe GHS 2019\nfeatures some of the biggest names in the healthcare industry, especially at\nthe 6th annual CEO leadership forum with leaders from across the globe. GHS\n2019 is being attended by over 100 opinion leaders and expert speakers from many\ncountries across the globe to present cutting edge scientific findings as these\nrelate to clinical practice, representing major Centers of Excellence,\nInstitutions, and Professional Associations are represented by the invited\nchairs and speakers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Dr. Sudhakar Jonnalagadda, President-Elect of AAPI, the\nscientific program of GHS 2017? (2019) was developed by leading experts with\nthe contributions of a stellar Scientific Advisory Board and International\nScientific Committee, while the event featuring plenary sessions, interactive\nround-tables, clinical practice workshops, and meet the expert sessions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AAPI continues its focus on women\u2019s education, especially in rural India.\nThe GHS this year will focus on preventive health, targeting Rural Health,\nWomen\u2019s Health, and providing special CPR Trainings that will equip First\nResponders to help save life, Dr. Anupama Gotimukula, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Offering trainings to First Responders, a&nbsp;CEO Forum by a galaxy of CEOs\nfrom around the world, inauguration of AAPI-sponsored clinic, CMEs, first ever\nMed Quiz, cultural events, interactive roundtables, clinical practice\nworkshops, scientific poster\/research session and meet-the-expert sessions,\nWomen\u2019s Forum by internally acclaimed successful worm from India, a session on\nPublic-Private Partnership featuring AAPI Healthcare Charitable showcase &amp;\ninnovation, are only some of the major highlights of the Healthcare Summit, Dr.\nReddy said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The official GHS Souvenir was presented to the Vice President of India by\nDr. Anupama Gotimukula, Vice President of AAPI, Dr. Ravi Kolli, Secretary of\nAAPI &nbsp;and Dr. Raj Bhayani, Treasurer of AAPI. A booklet containing CCLS\nGuidelines was presented to the Vice President of India for consideration by\nthe Government of India and to be made official guiding principles by India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Ravi Jahagirdar, Past President of AAPI and a Senior Strategic Advisor\nof AAPI proposed vote of thanks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier on July 21st, the GHS began in the early hours of the day as AAPI\ndelegates, students and faculties from several schools and colleges joined the\n\u201cObesity Revolution\u201d Walkathon for creating awareness about Obesity. The\nwalkathon had a record breaking as many as 2,000 participants. Each participant\nwas presented with a certificate for their support and efforts to create\nawareness about Obesity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith the changing trends and statistics in healthcare, both in India and\nUS, we are refocusing our mission and vision, AAPI would like to make a\npositive meaningful impact on the healthcare delivery system both in the US and\nin India,\u201d Dr. Reddy said.
