The meeting was held last night in New Delhi where officials of the Department of Commerce, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), National Buildings Construction Corporation Ltd. (NBCC) and other stakeholders were present. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The theme of the Expo is \u201cConnecting Minds, Creating the\nFuture\u201d with three sub themes \u2013 Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability \u2013 to\ngenerate sustainable solutions to global problems, demand and collaboration\nareas across cultures, countries and regions. More than 25 million visitors are\nexpected and 180 countries will be represented at the Expo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The India Pavilion will be a permanent structure being\nconstructed in the \u2018Opportunity\u2019 segment. The building will embody India\u2019s\nworship of nature and will be environment friendly. It will also showcase the\n150<sup>th<\/sup>Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi being celebrated this year.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Twenty-seven focus sectors have been identified to showcase\nIndia\u2019s advances in space, pharmaceuticals, information technology, renewable\nenergy and telecom sectors and also India\u2019s strength in innovation and\nstart-ups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NBCC has bagged the Rs. 400 crore project to build the\nPavilion at Dubai World Expo 2020. The Pavilion will have stalls displaying\nIndian handlooms, showcasing India\u2019s entertainment industry, the hospitality\nand tourism sector, India\u2019s gem and jewellery sector, AYUSH and medical tourism\nand India\u2019s tea, coffee and spices sectors. India\u2019s businesses and State\nGovernments will also put up stalls in the Pavilion. The cultural diversity of\nIndia will also be on display at the Pavilion with live performances, events\nand film shows. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Piyush Goyal urged those attending the review meeting to\nthink creatively keeping the Indian ethos in mind and explore all avenues to\nmake the best of this opportunity provided by the Dubai World Expo. Commerce\nand Industry Minister added that India\u2019s participation in the Expo may be a\nmemorable and befitting one. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commerce &amp; Industry Minister further added that although\nthe Expo ends after 6 months, the India Pavilion must continue to function as a\nshowcase in Dubai which is visited by 17 million tourists in a year and India\nmust explore all avenues to make the best use of the India Pavilion,\npermanently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the review meeting Commerce and Industry Minister\nsaid that it may be explored whether similar pavilions can be set up in the\neastern and western parts of the country to showcase India\u2019s sunrise sectors,\nexports and also function as a centre of information where other line\nMinistries will be able to set up their offices. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>India and World Expo 2020 signed participants contract on 10<sup>th<\/sup>\nApril 2018 for India\u2019s pavilion in the prestigious World Expo held once in five\nyears. The contract provided for the setting up of India Pavilion on an\nextra-large plot (about one acre). This is in tune with the opportunity for\neconomic activity that India provides on its path to becoming a USD five\ntrillion economy by 2025. FICCI has been tasked with helping the Government of\nIndia to prepare for Indian presence at the Expo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pavilion is being developed in Public Private\nPartnership mode. Leading industries and businesses are working with the\nCentral Government and State Governments for participation in India Pavilion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>About World Expo 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expo 2020 is a World Expo to be hosted by Dubai in the\nUnited Arab Emirates, opening on October 20, 2020.
