The GoM will\ncontinue to be given administrative support by the Home Ministry, it added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no clarity yet on whether the panel has been\nconstituted keeping in mind the Vishaka guidelines and the Sexual Harassment of\nWomen at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013, which\nmandates that panels formed to take action against sexual harassment at the\nworkplace must be headed by a woman, have at least two other members who are\nwomen and have an external member from a non-governmental organisation or\nassociations working on women\u2019s issues. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The GoM was reconstituted three days after The Quint\nreported that they filed RTIs to investigate the contribution of the Committee,\nwhich was formed in October last year, to the country\u2019s Me Too movement. The\nresponse from the government stated: \u201cIt is to inform you that with the\nconstitution of the seventeenth Lok Sabha and formation of new government, said\nCommittee is no longer in existence.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Centre had constituted a Group of Ministers (GoM) on\nOctober 24, 2018, a week after MJ Akbar, accused of sexual harassment and\nsexual misconduct by around 30 women, stepped down as the Minister of State in\nthe External Affairs Ministry in the previous Narendra Modi-led government. It\ncomprised of then Home Minister Rajnath Singh, the then Union Defence Minister\nNirmala Sitharaman, then Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Maneka\nGandhi and Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.\n\nAn official press release had at the time stated\nthat the GoM will recommend action required for effective implementation of the\nexisting provisions as well as for strengthening the existing legal and\ninstitutional frameworks for addressing issues related to sexual harassment at\nthe workplace.
