Ramanuja or Ramanujacharya (c. 1017\u20131137 CE) was an Indian philosopher, Hindu theologian, social reformer, and one of the most important exponents of the Sri Vaishnavism tradition within Hinduism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His philosophical foundations for devotionalism were influential to the Bhakti movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ramanuja’s guru was Y\u0101dava Prak\u0101\u015ba, a scholar who was a part of the more ancient Advaita Ved\u0101nta monastic tradition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sri Vaishnava tradition holds that Ramanuja disagreed with his guru and the non-dualistic Advaita Ved\u0101nta, and instead followed in the footsteps of Tamil Alv\u0101rs tradition, the scholars N\u0101thamuni and Yamun\u0101ch\u0101rya.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ramanuja is famous as the chief proponent of Vishishtadvaita subschool of Ved\u0101nta, and his disciples were likely authors of texts such as the Shatyayaniya Upanishad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ramanuja himself wrote influential texts, such as bh\u0101sya on the Brahma Sutras and the Bhagavad Gita, all in Sanskrit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His Vishishtadvaita (qualified non-dualism) philosophy has competed with the Dvaita (theistic dualism) philosophy of Madhv\u0101ch\u0101rya, and Advaita (non-dualism) philosophy of \u0100di Shankara, together the three most influential Vedantic philosophies of the 2nd millennium.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
