The Facebook-owned messaging app will also partner with Niti\nAayog\u2019s Women Transforming India (WTI) Awards 2019, and provide up to $100,000\nfor the winners. The WTI Awards are organised by the Niti Aayog in partnership\nwith the United Nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The announcement comes as WhatsApp puts the focus on its\nBusiness app in India, which it says has seen tremendous adoption from smaller\nand medium entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt\u2019s our honor to partner with NITI Aayog to help support\nthe future women business leaders of India,\u201d Will Cathcart, Global Head of\nWhatsApp said, \u201cSmall businesses are the backbone of a strong economy and I am\nproud of the role WhatsApp can play in helping build the next generation of\nIndia\u2019s women entrepreneurs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cathcart added that a recent survey of Indian small\nbusinesses on its platform showed that 77 per cent of them said that WhatsApp\nhelps them connect with customers \u2014 including in other cities and states.\nAnother 62 per cent said WhatsApp helps them increase sales and is essential\nfor running their business, according to him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
