The much-awaited GI recognition comes a year after West Bengal walked away with the tag. A GI tag recognises a product as distinctive to a particular locality or region or country. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The sweet has been registered under GI of Goods\n(Registration and Protection) Act, 2019 as \u2018Odisha Rasagola\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A certificate from the Geographical Indication Registry,\nGovernment of India, said that the GI tag for \u201cOdisha Rasagola\u201d has been\nregistered in the name of The Odisha Small Industries Corporation Limited and\nUtkala Mistanna Byabasayee Samiti (Utkala Sweetmakers Business Body). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Odishatv.in, the state has been granted GI tag\ncertificate that will be valid till February 22, 2028. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Odisha moved the GI Registry for its own version of rasagola\nafter West Bengal was awarded the GI tag for its own &#8216;Banglara Rasgulla&#8217; on\nNovember 14, 2017. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Odisha had submitted various documents sought by the GI\nRegistry office including the chemical composition, moisture and nutrient\ncontents of the sweet along with the general practices adopted during the\nproduction process as well as its quality and hygiene standards at various\nstages of production. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>West Bengal and Odisha have been engaged in a bitter legal\nbattle over the origin of the Rasgulla since June 2015. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The battle took a turn for the worse when Odisha\u2019s former\nScience and Technology Minister Pradip Kumar Panigrahi set up several\ncommittees in 2015 to trace the origin of the sweet delicacy. They even went a\nstep further to declare July 30 as \u2018Rasagolla Dibasa\u2019, to celebrate its origin.\n\n\nThen Bengal government, too, set up a committee\nand decided to fight the Odisha government&#8217;s claims legally, and, while\nreferring to 19th century origin of Rasagulla argued that the quintessential\nBengali delicacy was created by Nabin Chandra Das, a famous sweetmeat-maker in\n1868.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Odisha\u00b4s Rasagola Gets Much-awaited GI Tag after West Bangle.
