{"id":4235,"date":"2019-08-01T09:56:13","date_gmt":"2019-08-01T09:56:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=4235"},"modified":"2019-08-01T09:56:15","modified_gmt":"2019-08-01T09:56:15","slug":"london-become-worlds-best-student-city-in-new-rankings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/london-become-worlds-best-student-city-in-new-rankings\/","title":{"rendered":"London become worlds best student city in new rankings"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>London become worlds best student city in new rankings for the second consecutive year, beating international cities like Tokyo and Melbourne that came second and third respectively on a new worldwide rankings released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The &#8216;QS Best Student Cities Ranking&#8217; compiled by global\neducation consultancy QS Quacquarelli Symonds highlights each city&#8217;s\nperformance across six categories &#8211; the number of top-ranked universities; the\nproportion of a city&#8217;s population made up of students; quality of life on\noffer; job opportunities available after graduation; affordability; and the\nfeedback of the students themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the rankings, India&#8217;s best student city is\nBangalore (81st), followed by Mumbai (85th), Delhi at 113 and Chennai at 115\nout of a total of 120 cities ranked in the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The fact that London has again been ranked the best\ncity in the world in which to be a student is fantastic news &#8211; and is no\nsurprise given that London is home to world-leading higher education institutions\nand a vibrant cultural life,&#8221; said London&#8217;s Pakistani-origin Mayor Sadiq\nKhan, who has been an outspoken campaigner for better student visa offers for\nstudents from around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This is further evidence that London is open to\nstudents and talent from around the world,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>London beat international cities such as Tokyo in Japan\n(2nd) and Melbourne in Australia (3rd) to grab the first place for the second\nconsecutive year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Student numbers from India coming to study in London\nregistered a hike of 20 per cent in 2017-18, marking an increase from 4,545 in\n2016-17 to 5,455 in 2017-18.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the numbers are still below the mark than could be\nachieved from a large student market like India due to a less than attractive\nvisa regime which puts some off from applying to the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We look forward to welcoming even more international\nbright minds to the capital to soak up the city&#8217;s culture and to take advantage\nof the many opportunities it offers,&#8221; said Lalage Clay, Director of\nEducation and Talent at London &amp; Partners, the Mayor of London&#8217;s official\npromotional agency and home of Study London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;These are truly fantastic results for London,\nconfirming its outstanding reputation as the best student city in the world for\nthe second consecutive year. We are extremely proud of London&#8217;s many\nworld-class universities, our talented and diverse student body and of the\nincredible experiences students have in our city,&#8221; Clay said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>London&#8217;s high number of top universities, excellent\nemployment opportunities and diversity of its student body emerged as the\nstandout factors for the UK capital to cement its number one position, as well\nas positive feedback provided by London&#8217;s students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Europe dominates the list in the latest ranking, with the\nGerman cities of Munich (4th) and Berlin (5th), followed by the French capital\nParis at the seventh place and Switzerland&#8217;s Zurich at eighth place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Canadian city of Montreal (6th), Australia&#8217;s Sydney\n(9th) and South Korean capital Seoul (10th) complete the top 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other British cities featuring in the top 30 are Edinburgh\n(15th) and Manchester (29th).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>London become worlds best student city in new rankings for the second consecutive year, beating international cities like Tokyo and Melbourne that came second and third respectively on a new worldwide rankings released.
