{"id":4272,"date":"2019-08-03T05:03:32","date_gmt":"2019-08-03T05:03:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=4272"},"modified":"2019-08-03T05:09:21","modified_gmt":"2019-08-03T05:09:21","slug":"48-countries-tourists-are-exempted-from-visa-fees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/48-countries-tourists-are-exempted-from-visa-fees\/","title":{"rendered":"48 countries tourists are exempted from visa fees"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>48 countries tourists are exempted from visa fees by Sri Lankan govt including India and China from August 1 as part of efforts to attract more tourists to the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a media briefing here, Tourism Development, Wildlife and Christian Religious Affairs Minister John Amaratunga said that Cabinet approval has been obtained to waive off the existing $25  visa fees for travellers arriving from India, China, the US, Germany, Canada, Malaysia and Indonesia, among other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amaratunga said the policy would remain in place for six\nmonths, Xinhua news agency reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Controller General of Immigration and Emigration, Pasan\nRatnayake said that travellers wanting to visit Sri Lanka could obtain the visa\napproval by submitting all the required information electronically by accessing\nthe Sri Lankan embassy websites in their respective countries or by visiting\nthe Immigration website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For travellers who have not obtained visa approval before\narriving in the country, they can do so by submitting the necessary documents\nat the existing visa counter set up at the Bandaranaike International Airport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ratnayake said travellers from the listed countries will be\nissued a free 30-day visa and if any travellers needed an extension, they will\nbe required to make a payment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite suffering a set back due to the Easter Sunday terror\nattacks on April 21 which killed over 250 people and injured hundreds, Sri\nLanka is aiming to attract at least 1.9 million to 2 million tourists by the\nend of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, speaking at the media briefing, assured that Sri Lanka was now safe for travel as all the suspects linked directly and indirectly to the suicide explosions had been arrested or had died.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Relationship between India and srilanka<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\nThe relationship between India and Sri Lanka is\nmore than 2,500 years old.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both countries have a legacy of intellectual, cultural,\nreligious and linguistic interaction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent years, the relationship has been marked by close\ncontacts at all levels. Trade and investment have grown and there is\ncooperation in the fields of infrastructure development, education, culture and\ndefence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recent years, significant progress in implementation of\ndevelopmental assistance projects has further cemented the bonds of friendship\nbetween the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The nearly three-decade long armed conflict between the Sri\nLankan forces and the LTTE came to an end in May 2009.
