International Museum Day is celebrated on 18 May every year to raise awareness about the fact that, \u201cMuseums are an important means of cultural exchange, enrichment of cultures and development of mutual understanding, cooperation and peace among peoples.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The theme for International Museum Day 2021 is \u2018The Future of Museums: Recover and Reimagine\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The day provides the opportunity for museum professionals to meet the public and alert them as to the challenges that museums face, and raise public awareness on the role museums play in the development of society. It also promotes dialogue between museum professionals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first International Museum Day took place in 1977, coordinated by ICOM.
