{"id":4320,"date":"2019-08-03T10:17:31","date_gmt":"2019-08-03T10:17:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=4320"},"modified":"2019-08-03T10:17:33","modified_gmt":"2019-08-03T10:17:33","slug":"nagar-kirtan-from-pakistan-reaches-india-for-first-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/nagar-kirtan-from-pakistan-reaches-india-for-first-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Nagar kirtan from Pakistan reaches India for first time"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For the first time after Partition, nagar kirtan (Sikh religious procession) being carried out as part of the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, reached India via the Attari-Wagah border from Nankana Sahib in Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The procession crossed the zero line to enter the Indian\nside around 3.30pm with the holy saroop of Guru Granth Sahib carried by Golden\nTemple head granthi Giani Jagtar Singh on his head. The additional granthi of\nthe Golden Temple received the holy saroop on the zero line for continuing the\nprocession that will visit 17 Indian states before culminating at Sultanpur\nLodhi, the historic town in Kapurthala district, where Guru Nanak spent his 14\nyears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A rousing welcome was given to the holy saroop from Nankana\nSahib, the birthplace of the first Sikh master. A red carpet was rolled out on\nthe way of the nagar kirtan and petals were showered on it with newly released\nshabad \u2018Kal Taran Gur Nanak Aya\u2019 sung by Bollywood playback singer Sukhwinder\nSingh being played in the spectators\u2019 gallery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among those present on the occasion were Punjab cabinet\nministers, Akali Dal leaders and office-bearers of the Shiromani Gurdwara\nParbandhak Committee (SGPC) that organised the nagar kirtan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFollowers of Guru Nanak from Nankana Sahib, Sindh,\nPeshawar, Lahore and other parts of Pakistan became part of the procession,\u201d\nsaid SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal, who along with Akal Takht acting\njathedar Giani Harpreet Singh came with the nagar kirtan from Pakistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ministers OP Soni and Charanjit Singh Channi were\naccompanied by Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla and Congress MLAs Sunil Dutti,\nSantokh Singh Bhalaipur, Sukhwinder Singh Danny and Tarsem Singh DC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and Union minister of food\nprocessing industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal were among those who presented\n\u2018rumala\u2019 to the holy saroop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They were accompanied by party leaders Bikram Singh\nMajithia, Tota Singh, Jagir Kaur, Virsa Singh Valtoha and Nirmal Singh Kahlon.\nHeads of the Sikh seminaries such as Damdami Taksal were also present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Outside the integrated check post (ICP), thousands of people\ngathered to welcome the nagar kirtan led by the Panj Pyaras (five beloved ones\nof the Guru) and the saroop of the holy book being carried in a bus decorated\nwith flowers. A rush of devotees was witnessed on the Attari-Amritsar road.\nLangars were organised at different places along the stretch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adequate arrangements were made by the Border Security\nForces (BSF), Punjab Police and the civil administration to facilitate the\ndevotees.
