A start-up firm has exported two consignments of 4.5 tonnes of patented \u201cvillage rice\u201d sourced from Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu\u2019s Thanjavur district to Ghana and Yemen via air and sea routes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This development comes on the heels of APEDA helping in the shipments of \u201cred rice\u201d from Assam to the US in March this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iron-rich \u201cred rice\u201d is grown in the Brahmaputra valley of Assam without using any chemical fertilizer. The rice variety is referred to as \u201cBao-dhaan\u201d, an integral part of the Assamese food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
APEDA, which is the nodal agency for agricultural and processed food exports in the country, is working with various stakeholders such as farmers, entrepreneurs, exporters and importers across the globe to harness India\u2019s non-basmati rice exports potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Non-basmati rice exports to African and Asian countries are undertaken from various ports of India such as Kakinada, Vishakhapatnam, Chennai, Mundra and Krishnapatnam. Paradip will soon emerge as one of the major rice-exporting port of the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
