The Rwandan genocide occurred between 7 April and 15 July 1994 during the Rwandan Civil War. During this period of around 100 days, members of the Tutsi minority ethnic group, as well as some moderate Hutu and Twa, were slaughtered by armed militias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The most widely accepted scholarly estimates are around 500,000 to 800,000 Tutsi deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
France, which enjoyed close ties with Rwanda\u2019s Hutu-led government of President Juv\u00e9nal Habyarimana, has long been criticised for its role in the killings of the Tutsi minorities in the months of April to June 1994.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rwanda is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley, where the African Great Lakes region and East Africa converge. Its capital city is Kigali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
