The bipartisan act seeks to phase out the seven per cent per-country limit on employment-based immigrant visas and raises the per-country limit on family-sponsored visas from seven per cent to 15 per cent. It provides for a nine-year period for the elimination of this limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The seven per cent limit was introduced in the mid-20th century, which has led countries with relatively small populations to be allocated the same number of visas as a relatively large-population country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bipartisan act seeks to phase out the seven per cent per-country limit on employment-based immigrant visas and raises the per-country limit on family-sponsored visas from seven per cent to 15 per cent. It provides for a nine-year period for the elimination of this limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The seven per cent limit was introduced in the mid-20th century, which has led countries with relatively small populations to be allocated the same number of visas as a relatively large-population country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bipartisan act seeks to phase out the seven per cent per-country limit on employment-based immigrant visas and raises the per-country limit on family-sponsored visas from seven per cent to 15 per cent. It provides for a nine-year period for the elimination of this limit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The seven per cent limit was introduced in the mid-20th century, which has led countries with relatively small populations to be allocated the same number of visas as a relatively large-population country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Think-tank Cato Institute had reported in March 2020 that 75 per cent of the backlog for employment\u2010based visas was made up of Indians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the EAGLE Act, the per-country cap would be removed, which may expedite the petitions for those applying for employment-based green cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cabinet also green-lighted the formation of the Maharashtra Tree Authority, which will take all decisions regarding protection of trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It will have responsibility related to protection and conservation of trees, including \u201cheritage trees\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the proposed amendment, a tree with an estimated age of 50 years or more shall be defined as a heritage tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It may belong to specific species, which will be notified from time to time.In addition to the age, the state climate change department (which will be implementing the Tree Act), will also consider a tree\u2019s rarity, its botanical, historical, religious, mythological and cultural importance in defining a heritage tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The local Tree Authority will have to ensure tree census to be carried out every five years along with counting of heritage trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

US signed new Atlantic Charter on trade with UK<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nUS President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson signed a new Atlantic Charter, modeled after the 1941 agreement, that outlines eight key areas on which the US and the United Kingdom plan to collaborate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agreement was signed at the first face-to-face meeting between Johnson and Biden at the 2021 G7 Summit in Cornwall, England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agreement is a new version of the Atlantic Charter, signed by Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1941.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The charter commits to combating the modern challenges of cyberthreats and climate change and to bringing the pandemic to an end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CHIME telescope yields unprecedented results<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nScientists have assembled the largest collection of fast radio bursts (FRBs) in the telescope\u2019s first FRB catalogue with the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) Collaboration, which include researchers at the Pune-based Tata Institute for Fundamental Research (TIFR) and the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CHIME is an interferometric radio telescope. It is located in British Columbia, Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It consists of four antennas consisting of 100 x 20 metre cylindrical parabolic reflectors with 1024 dual-polarization radio receivers suspended on a support above them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The antenna receives radio waves from hydrogen in space at frequencies in the 400\u2013800 MHz range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While catching sight of an FRB is considered a rare thing in the field of radio astronomy, prior to the CHIME project, radio astronomers had only caught sight of around 140 bursts in their scopes since the first FRB was spotted in 2007.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maharashtra proposed amendments for protection of \u2018heritage\u2019 trees<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nMaharashtra (Urban Areas) proposed amendments for Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975 to bring in the concept of \u201cheritage trees\u201d which was approved by the Cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the proposed amendment, a tree with an estimated age of 50 years or more shall be defined as a heritage tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It may belong to specific species, which will be notified from time to time.In addition to the age, the state climate change department (which will be implementing the Tree Act), will also consider a tree\u2019s rarity, its botanical, historical, religious, mythological and cultural importance in defining a heritage tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The local Tree Authority will have to ensure tree census to be carried out every five years along with counting of heritage trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pile-up of foreign exchange reserves is an outcome of the RBI\u2019s strategy of buying dollars when there is a sudden spurt of inflows, which causes volatility in the forex markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In FY20, the RBI added over $100 billion to the reserves. It has also sold dollars when the rupee came under pressure. In February and March, the central bank had depleted its stockpile by almost $10 billion by selling dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nUS President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson signed a new Atlantic Charter, modeled after the 1941 agreement, that outlines eight key areas on which the US and the United Kingdom plan to collaborate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agreement was signed at the first face-to-face meeting between Johnson and Biden at the 2021 G7 Summit in Cornwall, England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The agreement is a new version of the Atlantic Charter, signed by Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1941.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The charter commits to combating the modern challenges of cyberthreats and climate change and to bringing the pandemic to an end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CHIME telescope yields unprecedented results<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nScientists have assembled the largest collection of fast radio bursts (FRBs) in the telescope\u2019s first FRB catalogue with the Canadian Hydrogen Intensity Mapping Experiment (CHIME) Collaboration, which include researchers at the Pune-based Tata Institute for Fundamental Research (TIFR) and the National Centre for Radio Astrophysics (NCRA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CHIME is an interferometric radio telescope. It is located in British Columbia, Canada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It consists of four antennas consisting of 100 x 20 metre cylindrical parabolic reflectors with 1024 dual-polarization radio receivers suspended on a support above them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The antenna receives radio waves from hydrogen in space at frequencies in the 400\u2013800 MHz range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While catching sight of an FRB is considered a rare thing in the field of radio astronomy, prior to the CHIME project, radio astronomers had only caught sight of around 140 bursts in their scopes since the first FRB was spotted in 2007.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Maharashtra proposed amendments for protection of \u2018heritage\u2019 trees<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\nMaharashtra (Urban Areas) proposed amendments for Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975 to bring in the concept of \u201cheritage trees\u201d which was approved by the Cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Cabinet also green-lighted the formation of the Maharashtra Tree Authority, which will take all decisions regarding protection of trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It will have responsibility related to protection and conservation of trees, including \u201cheritage trees\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the proposed amendment, a tree with an estimated age of 50 years or more shall be defined as a heritage tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It may belong to specific species, which will be notified from time to time.In addition to the age, the state climate change department (which will be implementing the Tree Act), will also consider a tree\u2019s rarity, its botanical, historical, religious, mythological and cultural importance in defining a heritage tree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The local Tree Authority will have to ensure tree census to be carried out every five years along with counting of heritage trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The pile-up of foreign exchange reserves is an outcome of the RBI\u2019s strategy of buying dollars when there is a sudden spurt of inflows, which causes volatility in the forex markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In FY20, the RBI added over $100 billion to the reserves. It has also sold dollars when the rupee came under pressure. In February and March, the central bank had depleted its stockpile by almost $10 billion by selling dollars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
