Israel becomes the first country to use Aerial Laser Weapons to shoot down hostile drones<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Israel’s Defence Ministry and defence contractor Elbit Systems Ltd are developing an airborne laser weapon to shoot down drones and other flying targets and it becomes the first country to use Aerial Laser Weapons to shoot down hostile drones recently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Preliminary tests of the laser, flown on a light aircraft, were successful against several drones at ranges of around 1 km (half a mile) in recent days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A 100-kilowatt prototype with a range of 20 km (12.5 miles) would come out in three to four years. That suggested an operational version would take longer to roll out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ministry, Elbit and state-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd are also working on a ground-based laser weapon for shooting down aerial threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Radio Telemetry deployed to identify corridors used by tigers in the Vidarbha landscape<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Radio Telemetry has been deployed to identify corridors used by tigers in the Vidarbha landscape, tracking their actual movement \u2014 indicating that the animals are moving in a much wider swathe of area outside the protected areas than previously known.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The investigators belonged the Maharashtra Forest Department and Wildlife Institute of India (WII),<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vidarbha has 331 tigers in a forest area of around 26,775 sq km, dissected by 84,202 km of roads, apart from irrigation canals and other projects. There have been growing instances of man-tiger conflict in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The project, carried out between 2017 and 2020 using radio signals, identified 37,067 sq km, in all, of tiger corridors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They tracked the epic journey of Walker (as the tiger was dubbed) over 3,000 km from Tipeshwar Sanctuary in Yavatmal district to Dnyanganga Sanctuary in Buldhana district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Navy adopts roadmap for synergising aim of ‘Blue Water Operations with a Green Footprint’<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Indian Navy has adopted a comprehensive ‘Indian Navy Environment Conservation Roadmap (INECR)’ for synergising the aim of ‘Blue Water Operations with a Green Footprint’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indian Navy commissioned one of its largest solar plant with a capacity of 3MW at Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala in July 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another 2MW solar power plant was installed at Naval Station Karanja, Mumbai in July 2020. With this, the overall installed solar plant capacity at Naval Stations is 11 MW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The installation of SPVs are in line with Navy\u2019s objective of fulfilling Govt of India\u2019s \u2018Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM)\u2019 mission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Further, viability of setting up urban forests concepts such as Miyawaki forests is being emphasised to match the theme of World Environment Day 2021- \u2018Ecosystem Restoration\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Samsung shifts display manufacturing unit from China to UP’s Noida<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Samsung has completed the construction of the display manufacturing unit that is shifted from China to Noida in Uttar Pradesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The delegation mentioned that the construction work displays the commitment towards India and to make Uttar Pradesh a manufacturing hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting with the delegation, the chief minister said that Samsung’s Noida factory is a classic example of success of the ‘Make in India’ programme, and added that this will help the youth of the state to get employment in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Adityanath assured the delegation that the state government will continue to extend help to the Samsung company in future as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Montek Singh Ahluwalia has been named the member of World Bank-IMF High Advisory Group<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Montek Singh Ahluwalia was named as a member of a High-Level Advisory Group (HLAG) formed by the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the face of the dual crisis posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and climate change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahluwalia is the former Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission and distinguished fellow at the Centre for Social and Economic Progress (CSEP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 15, the World Bank Group and IMF announced that the aim of the HLAG on sustainable and inclusive recovery and growth is to “help secure a strong recovery and set a path for green, resilient, and inclusive development over the coming decade”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group will be jointly led by Mari Pangestu, Managing Director for Development Policy and Partnerships, World Bank; Ceyla Pazarbasioglu, Director, Strategy, Policy and Review Department, International Monetary Fund; and Lord Nicholas Stern of the London School of Economics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrations were held in 192 of the 193 UN member countries, except Yemen, and events were held in 251 cities in six continents with 30,000 people performing yoga in Times Square in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yoga, an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice, originated in India thousands of years ago. The word \u2018yoga\u2019 derives from Sanskrit and means to join or to unite, symbolising the union of body and mind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odisha launched \u2018Ashirbad\u2019 scheme for COVID-19 Orphan Children<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Odisha CM launched the Ashirbad scheme which will provide Rs. 2,500 every month to the orphaned kids and Rs. 1,500 to those who have lost an earning parent to the virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kids moved to welfare homes in the absence of a caretaker will also be eligible for the scheme -applicable from April 2020 and will get an additional Rs. 1,000 every month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Till the children turn 18, the amounts will be transferred to the bank accounts of their guardians. However, adopted kids are not eligible for the scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If a relative who has taken a child\u2019s responsibility is eligible for a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana or Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana, out-of-turn allotment will be made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lauren Hubbard will be the first transgender to participate in the Olympics<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The New Zealand weightlifter Laurel Hubbard is poised to make history and headlines, as well as significant controversy, after being confirmed as the first transgender athlete to compete at an Olympic Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 43-year-old, who will be the fourth oldest weightlifter at an Olympics, is regarded as a genuine medal contender in the women\u2019s super heavyweight 87kg-plus category in Tokyo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But while her inclusion has been welcomed by trans groups, it has also been questioned by those who believe she has unfair advantages in strength and power, having gone through male puberty before transitioning in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Competing before her gender transition, Hubbard set New Zealand junior records in 1998 in the newly established M105+ division with snatch 135 kg, clean & jerk 170 kg, total 300 kg. Those records were later surpassed by David Liti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

N K Sodhi is the chairman of takeover panel reconstituted by SEBI<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Securities and Exchange Board of India has reconstituted its Takeover Panel, which looks into the applications seeking exemption from the mandatory open offer that an acquirer needs to make to minority shareholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The regulator has appointed N Venkatram MD and CEO, Deloitte India as the new member of the Takeover Panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The panel, chaired by N K Sodhi, the former chief justice of the high courts of Karnataka and Kerala, makes its recommendations to Sebi on such applications after which the regulator gives an opportunity to concerned parties before passing an order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The other members of the panel are Darius Khambata (former advocate general, Maharashtra) and Thomas Mathew T (former chairman of Life Insurance Corporation of India).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sebi had first constituted a four-member Takeover Panel in November 2007, under chairmanship of former Bank of Baroda chairman K Kannan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Tadang Minu appointed as AIBA\u2019s coaches committee member<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dr Tadang Minu from Arunachal has become the first woman in the country and the second Indian to be appointed as a member of the Coaches Committee of the International Boxing Association (AIBA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Minu, an assistant professor at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), was appointed to the post by the AIBA recently, considering her vast experience in the field of boxing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr Minu, who is the HoD (in-charge) of the physical education department of RGU, has also been retained as the Boxing Federation of India\u2019s Women\u2019s Commission chairman for another two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
