Agni series of modern missile has been successfully test fired by DRDO<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

DRDO successfully carried out the test-firing of a new missile of the Agni series known as Agni-Prime off the coast of Odisha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) officials, Agni-Prime is a new generation advanced variant of the Agni class of missiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DRDO had successfully test-fired enhanced range versions of indigenously developed 122mm Caliber Rocket from a Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) at Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

DRDO had also successfully test-fired an extended range version of indigenously developed Pinaka rocket from MBRL at ITR Chandipur off the coast of Odisha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

100 best medical colleges of the world in 2021<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In a ranking released by CEO World Magazine, Six medical colleges from India have found a place in the list of the World’s 100 best medical colleges for the year 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi has bagged 23rd position, while AFMC Pune has bagged 34th rank, followed by CMC Vellore (49), JIPMER Pondicherry (59), Medical College Chennai (64), and IMS BHU Varanasi (72).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The US-based Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine ranked first with the highest score of 99.06, followed by Harvard Medical School, Perelman School of Medicine, and NYU Grossman School of Medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UK-based Oxford University Medical School secured a score of 86.02 to rank 24th, followed by Cincinnati College of Medicine (85.08) and University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine (84.96).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, more medical schools from India made it to the list. Pune-based Armed Forces Medical College came 34th with a score of 83.04. Christian Medical College from Vellore stood 49th with a score of 80.83.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pondicherry-based JIPMER ranked 59th while Medical College Chennai stood at 64th and IMS BHU Varanasi at 72nd position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KK Venugopal\u2019s tenure as Attorney General extended by another year<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Government of India has extended the tenure of KK Venugopal as the Attorney General for India by one more year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2020 too, his tenure had been extended by one year. Venugopal’s current tenure ends in the next couple of days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Venugopal is 89-years-old. Appointed as AG on 1 July 2017 for a three-year term, he took over as the 15th Attorney General of India after former AG Mukul Rohatgi resigned citing personal reasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Interim Grievance Officer of Twitter in India has resigned from the post<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Twitter’s interim resident grievance officer for India has resigned from the post, leaving the micro-blogging site without a grievance official as mandated by the new IT rules to address complaints from Indian subscribers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The social media company’s website no longer displays his name, as required under Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new rules which came into effect from May 25 mandate social media companies to establish a grievance redressal mechanism for resolving complaints from the users or victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All significant social media companies, with over 50 lakh user base shall appoint a grievance officer to deal with such complaints and share the name and contact details of such officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The big social media companies are mandated to appoint a chief compliance officer, a Nodal Contact Person and a resident grievance officer. All of them should be resident in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rahi Sarnobat won gold medal in women’s 25m pistol event<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Rahi Sarnobat won gold medal in women’s 25m pistol event at the ISSF shooting World Cup. The silver went to France’s Mathilde Lamolle, who scored 31 in the final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarnobat’s gold is India’s first in the ongoing edition after the country secured one silver and two bronze medals earlier in the tournament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 30-year-old Sarnobat fired a final score of 39 after qualifying second with a total of 591. Her stupendous performance in the final included perfect scores in the third, fourth, fifth and the sixth series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the qualification, Sarnobat fired a brilliant 296 in the rapid fire round on Monday. Her precision score was an equally impressive 295.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bhaker recorded a total of 588 to qualify third after firing a 296 in the rapid-fire round on Monday following an impressive 292 in the precision round.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FM announced relief package worth Rs 6,28,993 crore against COVID-19<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Union Finance Ministry has announced stimulus package of six lakh 28 thousand 993 crore rupees to boost economy during the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced several economic relief measures amid COVID pandemic including eight economic relief measures, of which four are absolutely new and one is specific to health infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Finance Minister also announced 1.5 lakh crore rupees for Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme, ECLGS which was launched as part of Atmanirbhar Bharat Package in May, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The total financial implication over it will be 100 crore rupees. Sitharaman announced extension of Atmanirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana from 30th of June, 2021 to 31st of March, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sundeep Mishra has authored a new book titled \u2018Fiercely Female: The Dutee Chand Story\u2019 which chronicles Dutee Chand\u2019s journey with a detailed narrative of the gender-identity controversy that made her an iconic figure in Indian sport.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dutee Chand, the first openly homosexual athlete from India, scripted history in 2019 when she became the first Indian to win gold in a 100-metre event at the World Universiade in Naples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coming from a small village in Odisha, Dutee Chand went on to hold the national record in the women\u2019s 100 metres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is only the fifth Indian to participate in the women\u2019s 100 metres at the Olympics when she qualified for the 2016 Rio Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Cricket Council (ICC) Men\u2019s T20 World Cup 2021 will be staged in the UAE and Oman due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ICC is the world governing body of cricket. It was founded as the Imperial Cricket Conference in 1909 by representatives from Australia, England and South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was renamed as the International Cricket Conference in 1965, and took up its current name in 1987. The ICC has its headquarters in Dubai, UAE.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ICC has 104 member nations currently: 12 Full Members that play Test matches, and 92 Associate Members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ICC is responsible for the organisation and governance of cricket’s major international tournaments, most notably the Cricket World Cup and the T20 World Cup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also appoints the umpires and referees that officiate at all sanctioned Test matches, One Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

P. Sainath selected as one of the three recipients of Fukuoka Prize 2021<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Palagummi Sainath, a noted journalist has been selected as one of the three recipients of the Fukuoka Prize for 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Fukuoka Prize is given annually to distinguished people to foster and increase awareness of Asian cultures, and to create a broad framework of exchange and mutual learning among the Asian people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Grand Prize has earlier been awarded to Muhammad Yunus from Bangladesh, historian Romila Thapar, and sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan. Eleven Indians have received the Fukuoka Prize so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

115 people from 28 countries and areas have received the Prize in the past 30 years. The Prize was established in 1990.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Palagummi Sainath is an Indian journalist and author of the book Everybody Loves a Good Drought. He has been actively campaigning, throughout his career, over the issues leading up to the farmers’ agitations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Office of Principal Scientific Adviser launched the Atmanirbhar Krishi APP which was created to equip farmers with actionable agricultural insights and early weather alerts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Data related to soil type, soil health, moisture, weather, and water tablewere aggregated and analysed to generate personalized insights related to crop selection, fertilizers requirements, and water needs for each farmer at the farm-holding level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The app was envisioned in 5 stages:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Data aggregation<\/li>
  2. Building centralized insights<\/li>
  3. Enable local expertise (KVK) supported interactions and insights<\/li>
  4. Deriving Machine Learning inferences<\/li>
  5. Continuous improvement<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Salient features of the app:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. The data has been made comprehensible for farmers by simplifying the language. The app is also available in 12 languages.<\/li>
    2. The Android and Windows versions of the app are available on Google Play Store and are free of cost for farmers, start-ups, KVKs, SHGs, or NGOs to use.<\/li>
    3. Considering the connectivity issues in the remote areas of the country, the app has been designed to work on minimal bandwidth.<\/li>
    4. The app does not collect any inputs from the farmer. It relies on the geo-location of the farm to provide relevant data (see figure).<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      NITI Aayog Releases Report on Not-for-Profit Hospital Model in India<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      NITI Aayog released a comprehensive study on the not-for-profit hospital model in the country, in a step towards closing the information gap on such institutions and facilitating robust policymaking in this area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The study provides insights into the operation model of not-for-profit hospitals. It presents research-based findings on such hospitals\u2014categorized under ownership and premise of service\u2014and makes subsequent comparisons with private hospitals and health schemes of the Union government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The not-for-profit hospital sector provides not only curative but also preventive healthcare. It links healthcare with social reform, community engagement, and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      It uses government resources and grants to provide cost-effective healthcare to people without being concerned about profits. However, over the years, this sector has remained understudied.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The study discusses in detail the cost-containment strategies implemented by not-for-profit hospitals. It seeks to understand the challenges that burden the operations of these institutions and hinder their growth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      First-of-its-kind initiative to advance deep tech-based research in India<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      SERB-DST partners with Intel India to launch first-of-its-kind initiative to advance deep tech-based research in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The opportunities will be offered by the first-of-its-kind research initiative called \u2018Fund for Industrial Research Engagement (FIRE)\u2019 launched by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      SERB-FIRE is a novel initiative to bring together industry and academia on a common platform to exchange ground-breaking ideas and co-promote innovative research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The FIRE program is a joint government and industry initiative with a co-funding mechanism to promote innovative technology solutions and strengthen academic research through collaboration with key research and development (R&D) organizations in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The program intends to select highly impactful research projects in every cycle (typically once or twice a year), which have breakthrough potential at a national or global level. It will support the best researchers in academia with funding, mentoring, and industry connect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Association of cloud bursts with forest fires<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      A recent study has found a connection between the formation of the tiny particles, the size of a cloud droplet on which water vapor condenses leading to the formation of clouds and forest fires. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The quantity of such particles called the cloud condensation nuclei (CCNs) were found to have peaks associated with forest fire events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      This first-time study published in the \u2018Atmospheric Environment\u2019 journal showed that the highest concentration of CCN was found to be associated with excessive fire forest activities of the Indian subcontinent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      There were other peaks also associated with a variety of events, such as long-range transportation and local residential emission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      This research will be helpful in source allocation of pollutants reaching the high-altitude regions of Garhwal Himalaya. Also, it will provide the better understanding for the cloud formation mechanism and weather extremities over this region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      NATRAX, developed in an area of 1000 acres of land, is a one stop solution for all sorts of high speed performance tests for widest categories of vehicles from 2 wheelers to heavy tractor trailers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The NATRAX centre has multiple test capabilities like measurements of maximum speed, acceleration, constant speed fuel consumption, emission tests through real road driving simulation, high speed handling and stability evaluation during manoeuvred such as lane change, high speed durability testing, etc. and is a Centre of excellence for Vehicle Dynamics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      HST is used for measuring the maximum speed capability of high-end cars like BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Tesla and so forth which cannot be measured on any of the Indian test tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
