Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nIn a letter dated August 3, the Board has said the IRCTC,\nrailways ticketing and tourism arm, had made a “detailed case” for\nthe restoration of service charge on booking of e-ticket and the matter has\nbeen examined by the “competent authority”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It further said the Finance Ministry has contended that the\nscheme of waiving of service charges was a temporary one and that the railway\nministry could begin charging e-tickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“In view of the advice given by the Ministry of\nFinance, the competent authority has decided that IRCTC may take a suitable\ndecision on the imposition\/restoration of convenience fee\/service charges and\nthe quantum to be levied,” the letter said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials say that after service charges were discontinued,\nIRCTC saw a 26 per cent drop in Internet ticketing revenue in financial year\n2016-17.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
IRCTC used to levy a service charge of \u20b920 on every non-AC e\nticket and \u20b940 for every AC ticket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
IRCTC will now have to decide whether it will keep the earlier charges or increase it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
