Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nOrgan donation can be described as a process wherein an\norgan is transferred from the body of the donor (the one who is giving the\norgan) to the recipient (the one who requires the organ). Moreover, the donor\ncan be either a living or deceased as there are two types of organ donation-\nlive and cadaver (deceased donation). The decision to donate organs is a\nlife-altering for people in dire need of transplants. In view of it, Global\nhospital conducted a unique felicitation program to honour families who\nconsented for organ donation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Prashant Borade, Head of Critical Care, Global Hospital,\nParel, said, \u201cWorld Organ Donation Day is observed every year on August 13, and\ndue to a lack of awareness regarding organ donation, there are myths and fears\nin peoples\u2019 mind regarding it. It is my belief that we must pledge organs and\nencourage individuals and families in our neighborhood to do the same. In this\nyear till date, families of four brain stem death certified patients consented\nfor organ donation and helped many patients with the gift of life. This\ninitiative has been taken by the hospital to felicitate those families who in\ntime of profound personal grief have stepped up to give a gift of life to\nothers through organ donation.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Vivek Talaulikar, CEO of the hospital, highlighted,\n\u201cOrgan donation is the need of the hour as one organ donor can save up to nine\nlives. The objective of this day is to motivate people to pledge to donate\norgans after death and spread awareness about the importance of organ donation.\nThe organs from a deceased donor can help many other patients start the second\ninnings of their life.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
