World Tiger Day was first observed in the year 2010 at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of thirteen tiger range countries came together and decided a global goal to double the number of wild tigers by the year 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), there may have been 100,000 tigers at the beginning of the 20th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parliament recently passed the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Bill 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lok Sabha has already passed the Bill. The Bill seeks to amend the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The amendments include authorizing District Magistrate including Additional District Magistrate to issue adoption orders to ensure speedy disposal of cases and enhance accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Defining eligibility parameters for appointment of Child Welfare Committee members and categorizing previously undefined offences as serious offences are some of the other aspects of the Bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Union defence minister Rajnath Singh recently attended SCO Defence Ministers\u2019 meeting in Tajikistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Defence Minister congratulated Member-States of the SCO on successful completion of 20 years of its existence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SCO is an eight-member economic and security bloc and has emerged as one of the largest transregional international organisations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was founded at a summit in Shanghai in 2001 by the Presidents of Russia, China, Kyrgyz Republic, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chandrayaan-3 is a planned third lunar exploration mission by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following Chandrayaan-2, where a last-minute glitch in the soft landing guidance software led to the failure of the lander’s soft landing attempt after a successful orbital insertion, another lunar mission for demonstrating soft landing was proposed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chandrayaan-3 will be a mission repeat of Chandrayaan-2 but will only include a lander and rover similar to that of Chandrayaan-2. It will not have an orbiter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pre-Summit of United Nations Food Systems Summit 2021<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar addressed the Ministerial Statement in the Pre-Summit of United Nations Food System Summit 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister emphasized the importance of Agriculture in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 as 12 out of 17 SDGs are directly dependent on agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Secretary-General of the United Nations has convened a Food Systems Summit to be held in 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UN Food Systems Summit aims to launch bold new actions to transform the way the world produces and consumes food, as part of the Decade of Action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Summit is scheduled to take place at the margins of the General Assembly in 2021 and will be guided by five Action Tracks that plan to bring together key players and draw on the expertise of actors from across the world\u2019s food systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY)<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Government of India has been promoting Organic farming in the country through dedicated scheme namely Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) since 2015-16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scheme stress on end to end support to organic farmers i.e from production to certification and marketing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Post harvest management support including processing, packing, marketing is made integral part of these schemes to encourage organic farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under PKVY, farmers are provided financial assistance of Rs 50,000 per hectare\/ 3 years, out of which Rs. 31,000 (62%) is provided directly through DBT for inputs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An amount of total Rs 29.59 crore has been released to Assam for 220 clusters benefitting 11000 farmers for 4425 ha area against the target 4451 since 2015-16 to till date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Centre launched the “Secured Logistics Document Exchange”<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Centre launches the “Secured Logistics Document Exchange” along with a Calculator for Green House Gas Emissions with an aim to further improve ease of doing business.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SLDE platform is a solution to replace the present manual process of generation, exchange and compliance of logistics documents with a digitized, secure and seamless document exchange system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Digital transformation in the logistics sector to achieve the targets of improved India\u2019s ranking in Logistics Performance Index.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Digital initiative set to improve logistics efficiency, reduce logistics cost, and promote multi-modality and sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These digital initiatives are launched to fill gap areas where no action has yet been taken either by private players or any of the line ministries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

King Chilli \u2018Raja Mircha\u2019 from Nagaland exported to London for the first time<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A consignment of \u2018Raja Mircha\u2019 referred as king chilli from Nagaland was exported to London via Guwahati by air for the first time in a major boost to exports of Geographical Indications (GI) products from the north-eastern region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The consignment of King Chilli also considered as world\u2019s hottest based on the Scoville Heat Units (SHUs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The consignment was sourced from Tening, part of Peren district, Nagaland and was packed at APEDA assisted packhouse at Guwahati.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chilli from Nagaland is also referred as Bhoot Jolokia and Ghost pepper. It got GI certification in 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

APEDA in collaboration with the Nagaland State Agricultural Marketing Board (NSAMB), coordinated the first export consignment of fresh King Chilli.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

APEDA had coordinated with NSAMB in sending samples for laboratory testing in June and July 2021 and the results were encouraging as it is grown organically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ODF Plus Manuals under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Phase II<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and the Minister of State for Jal Shakti& Food Processing Industries, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel released the ODF Plus Manuals under Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) Phase \u2013II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was organized by Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taking forward the extraordinary success, Phase -II of the SBM (G) aiming at achieving ODF Plus goal was launched early last year, which focuses on ODF sustainability and Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) aiming at comprehensive cleanliness in villages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For FY 2021-22 as part of approved Annual Implementation Plan (AIP); SBM (G) Phase -II is poised to support over two lakh villages achieve solid and liquid waste management (SLWM) arrangements through an investment of over Rs. 40,700 crores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The success of SBM (G) \u2013 the largest ever behavior change programme in the world, can also be attributed to the extensive focus on capacity building of a range of key stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An important aspect of SBMG Phase -II is continuous engagement and capacity strengthening of all stakeholders at various levels to ensure effective and expedited implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The availability of reference materials pertaining to program\u2019s approach, technical specifications, cost estimates, technical drawings etc. for various elements of ODF Plus is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2,734 projects completed under Smart Cities Mission till June 2021<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Smart Cities Mission (SCM) is being implemented in 100 cities selected through 4 rounds of competition from January 2016 to June 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As on 30 June,2021, these cities have tendered out 5,956 projects worth \u20b91,79,413 crore; out of which work orders have been issued in 5,314 projects worth \u20b9 1,48,029 crore; out of these, 2,734 projects worth \u20b9 46,769 crore have been completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Central Government has released \u20b923,925 crore to States\/Union Territories for their Smart Cities as of June, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out of 1,794 projects worth \u20b957,124 crore that were part of the Smart City Plans of Smart Cities selected in Round-1, 1,667 projects (93%) worth \u20b945,374 crore (79%) have either been completed or are under implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Badminton legend Nandu Natekar passed away<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Nandu Natekar, the first Indian to win an international badminton title in 1956, passed away on July 28, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 88-year-old was said to be suffering from age-related ailments. Natekar had reportedly won over 100 national and international trophies during his career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natekar is survived by his son Gaurav, a seven-time Indian national champion in tennis, and two daughters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Natekar reached the quarter-finals of the prestigious All England Championships in 1954 during his illustrious career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1956, he won Sellanger International in Malaysia. Six times he won the Men’s Doubles National Championship, six times he won the Men’s Singles National Championship, and five times he won the Mixed Doubles National Championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lok Sabha passed Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2021<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lok Sabha passed the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and proposed \u2018pre-packs\u2019 or Pre-packaged Insolvency Resolution Process (PIRP) as an insolvency resolution mechanism for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A pre-pack envisages the resolution of the debt of a distressed company through a direct agreement between secured creditors and the existing owners or outside investors, instead of a public bidding process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the pre-pack system, financial creditors will agree to terms with the promoters or a potential investor, and seek approval of the resolution plan from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The approval of at least 66 per cent of financial creditors that are unrelated to the corporate debtor would be required before a resolution plan is submitted to the NCLT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NCLTs will be required to either accept or reject an application for a pre-pack insolvency proceeding before considering a petition for a Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assam-Mizoram policemen clash<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

More than five policemen have died in India after police from two states named Assam and Mizoram fired at each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Assam shares a 164km (about 101 miles) border with Mizoram, and both states contest its demarcation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under colonial rule, Lushai Hills, as Mizoram was then known, was part of Assam. The region only gained recognition in 1972 – almost three decades after India’s independence – when it became a separate federally administered area. In 1987, it became a fully-fledged state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Three districts in Assam – Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj – share a 164km-long border with three districts of Mizoram.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The forested area is contested at several points, with both Assam and Mizoram accusing each other of encroaching on their land.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The federal government has been trying to mediate a truce between the states since 1994 but has failed to achieve a breakthrough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tensions escalated to an unprecedented level in October 2020 when residents of Assam and Mizoram clashed twice in a week. At the heart of the matter was an “eviction drive” carried out by Assam along a contested part of the border – authorities from the state reportedly burned a farmhouse and crops in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is envisioned as a welfare scheme for empowering Dalit families and enable entrepreneurship among them through a direct benefit transfer of Rs 10 lakh per family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is, once implemented on the ground, going to be the biggest cash transfer scheme in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apart from monetary assistance, the government plans to create a corpus called the Dalit Security Fund permanently to support the beneficiary in the event of any adversities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
