Modi acknowledged that nearly half of India has no access to\ndrinking water and that this was a serious deterrent in the country’s efforts\nto combat poverty. “However, it is also true that half the households in\nIndia have no access to drinking water. Half their day is spent in getting\nwater. Therefore, we in our government gave a thought on ways to provide\ndrinking water to all,” he said, adding, “This mission should not\njust be at the govt’s level. Just like Swachhta Mission this should a people’s\nmission.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Jal Jeevan Mission, under the Department of Drinking\nWater and Sanitation, will focus on integrated demand and supply-side\nmanagement of water at the local level, including the creation of local\ninfrastructure for source sustainability like rainwater harvesting, groundwater\nrecharge, and management of household wastewater for reuse in agriculture. The\nJal Jeevan Mission aims converge with other Central and State Government\nSchemes to achieve its objectives of sustainable water supply management across\nthe country, said officials.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier last month, union finance minister Nirmala\nSitharaman had said that government has identified 1,592 Blocks which are\ncritical and over exploited, spread across 256 districts for the Jal Shakti\nAbhiyan. Besides using funds available under various schemes, the government\nwill also explore the possibility of using additional funds available under the\nCompensatory Afforestation Fund Management and Planning Authority (CAMPA) for\nthis purpose, she had said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
