The UN peacekeeping force patrolling the Lebanon-Israel border and warned of a “very dangerous situation” after Hezbollah and the Israeli army traded fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Israeli\u2013Lebanese conflict, or the South Lebanon conflict, was a series of military clashes involving Israel, Lebanon<\/a> and Syria, the Palestine Liberation Organization, as well as various militias acting from within Lebanon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) recruited militants in Lebanon from among the Palestinian refugees who had been expelled or fled after the creation of Israel in 1948.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United Nations Peacekeeping Forces are employed by the World Organization to maintain or re-establish peace in an area of armed conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Japan to Deploy Island Missile Defenses to Counter China Military Blockade<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Japan has planned to place an additional “500 to 600” missile defense personnel on Ishigaki island in a move that will boost allied capabilities to counter China’s area denial tactics within the first island chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ishigaki Island is a Japanese island south-west of Okinawa Hont\u014d and the second-largest island of the Yaeyama Island group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is within the City of Ishigaki in Okinawa Prefecture. The city functions as the business and transport center of the archipelago. The island is served by New Ishigaki Airport, the largest airport in the Yaeyamas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Japan will bolster the first island chain with further missile defenses on four Okinawa islands in the Western Pacific, including Miyako and the main Okinawa island where the majority of forward-deployed U.S. forces are stationed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indian wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya bagged silver medal at Tokyo Olympics<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Indian wrestler Ravi Kumar won the silver medal in men’s freestyle 57kg after losing to Russian Olympic Committee’s (ROC) Zavur Uguev in the final at the Tokyo Olympics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ravi Kumar Dahiya is an Indian freestyle wrestler who won a silver medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the 57 kg category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He is also a bronze medalist from 2019 World Wrestling Championships and a two-time Asian champion. He hails from Haryana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ravi Kumar is the fifth Indian wrestler after KD Jadhav, Sushil Kumar, Yogeshwar Dutt, and Sakshi Malik to finish on the Olympic podium. Dahiya became the second Indian wrestler ever to win an Olympic silver after Sushil Kumar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India end 41-year wait for hockey medal<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

India has ended their 41-year wait for a hockey medal at the Tokyo Olympics by beating four-time champions Germany 5-4 in a nail-biter of a bronze medal match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last time India had won a medal in hockey was at the 1980 Moscow Games where they got the gold. It was India’s last of the eight Olympic golds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is India’s third hockey bronze medal in the history of the Olympics. The other two came in 1968 Mexico City and the 1972 Munich Games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swarnim Vijay Varsh Victory Flame at Cellular Jail<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Swarnim Vijay Varsh Victory Flame was taken to Cellular Jail at Port Blair in Andaman & Nicobar Islands to mark the 50th anniversary celebrations of India\u2019s victory in the 1971 war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Cellular Jail proudly stands as a symbol of India\u2019s freedom struggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also known as K\u0101l\u0101 P\u0101n\u012b, the jail was used to exile political prisoners to the remote archipelago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many notable freedom fighters including Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, Batukeshwar Dutt, Yogendra Shukla and V.O. Chidambaram Pillai, were imprisoned there during the freedom struggle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, the Cellular Jail serves as a national monument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KVIC’s unique plastic mixed handmade paper gets patent<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) recently secured Patent registration for its innovative plastic-mixed handmade paper developed to reduce plastic menace from nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The patent certificate was issued to KVIC\u2019s Kumarappa National Handmade Paper Institute (KNHPI), Jaipur, on 2nd August 2021, by the Controller of Patent, Intellectual Property of India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The plastic-mixed handmade paper was developed under Project REPLAN (REducing PLAstic from Nature).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is the first of its kind project in India, where plastic waste is de-structured, degraded, diluted and used with paper pulp while making handmade paper and thus reduces plastic waste from nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The invention is aligned with the Prime Minister\u2019s call for fighting the menace of single-use plastic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The technology developed by KVIC uses both high & low density waste polythene that not only adds extra strength to the paper but also reduces the cost by up to 34%. The product is recyclable and eco-friendly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Share of Natural Gas in Primary Energy Mix Envisaged to increase to 15% by 2030<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Ministry of Road Transport & Highways informed that the share of natural gas in the primary energy mix is envisaged to increase to 15% by 2030 by boosting domestic production and procuring LNG.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LNG imports are under Open General Licensing (OGL) category and establishment of LNG infrastructure, including LNG terminals, is also under 100% FDI (automatic route).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The market of natural gas is being created by expansion of gas infrastructure, including City Gas Distribution, Gas Grid Network and establishment of LNG retail outlets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Ministry has notified mass emission standards for Liquefied Natural Gas- driven vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has also notified mass emission norms for agricultural tractors, power tillers, construction equipment vehicles and combined harvesters driven by dual fuel diesel with Liquefied Natural Gas engines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

First MK Bhan Fellowship-Young Researcher Fellowship Programme<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India, announced the results of the First MK Bhan Fellowship-Young Researcher Fellowship Programme (MKB-YRFP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Department established the MK Bhan Fellowship-Young Researcher Fellowship Programme (MKB-YRFP) with an aim to encourage young bright researchers below 35 years of age to continue their research in the country after Ph.D. in any branch of Life Sciences\/ Biotechnology\/allied areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scheme offers an independent research grant for three years to the young Post-Doctoral Fellows to enable them to emerge as future leaders and take up cutting edge research focused on issues of national relevance. This Fellowship, entails a monthly emolument of Rs 75,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TRIFED to set up Atmanirbhar Corner in Indian missions<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Tribal Co-operative Marketing Federation of India (TRIFED) to set up Atmanirbhar Corner in Indian missions and embassies around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India enacted the Geographical Indications (Registration and Protection Act), 1999, which came into effect from September 15, 2003.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

O. Chidambaranar Port Trust, formerly Tuticorin Port Trust, is an artificial port in Tamil Nadu. It is one of the major ports in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Centre moves to redact retrospective tax law<\/span><\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The government of India took the first step towards doing away with the contentious retrospective tax law of 2012, which was used to raise large tax demands on foreign investors like Vodafone and Cairn Energy, and blamed for vitiating India\u2019s investment climate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister introduced the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha on Thursday to nullify the relevant retrospective tax clauses that were introduced in 2012 to bring past indirect transfer of Indian assets under the ambit of taxation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A retrospective tax<\/a> is one that is charged for transactions in the long past. It can be a new or additional charge on transactions done in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Government of India recently lost an international arbitration case<\/a> to energy giant Cairn Plc over the retrospective levy of taxes, and has been asked to pay damages worth $1.2 billion to the UK firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The handloom sector is one of the major symbols of the Indian cultural heritage. It has been an important source of livelihood, especially for women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
