Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nIt has been the constant endeavour of the Ministry to ensure\nthat dangerous and illegal practices such as manual scavenging and hazardous\ncleaning of sewers and septic tanks be completely eliminated. In this regard,\nthere have been many advisories and SOPs issued by MoHUA on safe cleaning and\nmaintenance of septic tanks, sewer networks and manholes targeted at\neliminating human casualties. The workshop on sustainable sanitation is being\norganized in order to bring together relevant stakeholders to strategize on\nmitigating the risks associated with manual entry into sewers \/ septic tanks in\na systematic manner, and help eliminate such incidents and fatalities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The workshop is being organized as part of the year long\ncelebration of Mahatma Gandhi\u2019s 150th birth anniversary. The focus of the\nworkshop will be on discussing social and legal issues as well as technological\nand managerial interventions with regard to human entry into sewers and septic\ntanks. Alongside, the workshop will showcase best practices on Operation and\nMaintenance (O&M) of sewerage system including mechanical cleaning of\nsewers, faecal sludge management with mechanical cleaning of septic tanks,\nco-treatment of septage, and showcase the latest equipment and machinery for\ncleaning of sewers and septic tanks in the exhibition. The roles and\nresponsibilities of the Emergency Response Sanitation Unit (ERSU), a proposed\nunit to systematise human entry into sewer\/septic tanks in a professional, well\ntrained, motivated and appropriately equipped manner. Wastewater and stormwater\nmanagement including rainwater harvesting in line with the Government\u2019s focus\non water conservation through the Jal Shakti Abhiyan will also form an\nimportant agenda of discussion at the workshop. To complement these efforts,\nthe Ministry will release the Manual on Stormwater Drainage Systems, 2019,\nAdvisory on ERSU and the Directory of Sewer and Septic Cleaning Equipment\nprepared by technical experts from the Central Public Health and Environmental\nEngineering Organisation (CPHEEO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Through a series of panel discussions through the day, the\nworkshop will also see discussions and presentation of best practices on\nMunicipal Solid Waste (MSW) based biomethanation under Sustainable Alternative\nTowards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) initiative of Ministry of Petroleum\nand Natural Gas (MoP&NG) and co\u00adtreatment of organic fraction of MSW with\nsludge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The day long interaction among stakeholders is expected to\nculminate into a comprehensive roadmap for ensuring sustainable sanitation in\nurban areas. State\/ UT and ULB level representatives, in the coming days, will\norganize similar workshops in their respective areas to further disseminate\ninformation and insights on this crucial subject thereby lending a new\ndimension to the issue of safe and sustainable sanitation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
