The two nations signed 10 Memoranda of Understandings (MoUs) to infuse new energy in their ties. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had a comprehensive meeting, where we deliberated on the\nrelations between India and Bhutan. There is great scope to further improve\neconomic and cultural ties between our nations,\u201d Prime Minister Modi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Modi is here on his second visit to Bhutan and the first since\nhis re-election in May 2019. He inaugurated the Mangdechhu hydroelectric power\nplant and also launched stamps to commemorate five decades of India-Bhutan\nHydropower cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am very happy to come to Bhutan at the beginning of my\nsecond term,\u201d Modi said in a joint press statement after delegation-level talks\nwith his Bhutanese counterpart at the historic Simtokha Dzong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two countries signed 10 MoUs in the field of space\nresearch, aviation, IT, power and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Modi also launched the RuPay Card in Bhutan by making a\npurchase at Simtokha Dzong, built in 1629 by Shabdrung Namgyal. This place\nfunctions as a monastic and administrative centre and is one of the oldest\ndzongs in Bhutan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am very happy that today we have launched RuPay card in\nBhutan. This will further enhance our relationship in digital payments, and\ntrade and tourism. Our shared spiritual heritage and strong people-to-people\nrelationship are key of our relations,\u201d Prime Minister Modi said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On increasing the currency swap limit for Bhutan under the\nSAARC currency swap framework, Modi said India\u2019s approach is \u201cpositive\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said an additional $100 million will be available to\nBhutan under a standby swap arrangement to meet the foreign exchange\nrequirement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two leaders also unveiled e-plaque of the\ninterconnection between India\u2019s National Knowledge Network and Bhutan\u2019s Druk\nResearch and Education Network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is a privilege for India to be a major partner in the\ndevelopment of Bhutan. India\u2019s cooperation in Bhutan\u2019s five-year plans will\ncontinue,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two leaders jointly inaugurated the Ground Earth Station\nand SATCOM network, developed with assistance from the Indian Space Research\nOrganisation (ISRO) for utilisation of South Asia Satellite in Bhutan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Modi said India is committed to facilitate Bhutan\u2019s\ndevelopment through the use of space technology. India will enhance the\ncommunication, public broadcasting and disaster management coverage in Bhutan,\nhe said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said the collaboration and relationship between Royal\nBhutan University and IITs of India and some other top educational institutions\nare in line with today\u2019s requirements for education and technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI believe that India and Bhutan will remain a unique model\nof relations between two countries in the world,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On his part, Prime Minister Tshering said India and Bhutan\nmay vary in size but their beliefs, values and motivation are common.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn his (Modi) first visit to Bhutan, I remember him saying\nthat Bhutan and India are close not because we have open borders, but because\nwe have opened our hearts to each other. Your visit this time shows how much\nyou meant it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Modi also planted a sapling at Simtokha Dzong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, Prime Minister Modi inspected a guard of honour\nduring his ceremonial welcome at Tashichhodzong Palace here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prime Minister Modi received a red-carpet welcome at the\nParo airport where he was received by the Bhutanese prime minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Waving the Indian tricolour and the Bhutanese flags, people\nlined up along the route from Paro to the capital city Thimphu to welcome Prime\nMinister Modi, who is in Bhutan on a two-day visit.\n\nPrime Minister Modi will also address young\nBhutanese students at the prestigious Royal University of Bhutan.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bhutanese counterpart Lotay Tshering held a wide ranging talks during which they discussed steps to further expand the bilateral partnership across several sectors.
