{"id":5034,"date":"2019-08-20T09:44:01","date_gmt":"2019-08-20T09:44:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=5034"},"modified":"2019-08-20T09:44:02","modified_gmt":"2019-08-20T09:44:02","slug":"karnataka-gets-17-ministers-after-yediyurappas-cabinet-expansion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/karnataka-gets-17-ministers-after-yediyurappas-cabinet-expansion\/","title":{"rendered":"Karnataka gets 17 ministers after Yediyurappa\u2019s cabinet expansion"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The 17-member Karnataka Cabinet took oath at Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru on 20 August morning, three weeks after senior BJP leader BS Yediyurappa sworn-in as Chief Minister of the state after defeating the Congress-JDS coalition government via Trust Vote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the first Cabinet expansion after Yediyurappa\nassumed office on July 26 and proved his government&#8217;s majority on the floor of\nthe Assembly on July 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new Ministers were administered the oath of office and\nsecrecy by Governor Vajubhai Vala at the Raj Bhavan here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They include former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, two\nformer deputy Chief Ministers &#8212; K S Eshwarappa and R Ashoka, independent MLA H\nNagesh and Laxman Sangappa Savadi, who is not a member of the Assembly or\nCouncil, and MLC Kota Srinivas Poojari.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The development came after BJP President and Union home\nminister Amit Shah approved 17 names to be inducted into the Karnataka cabinet\nlate on Monday night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>17, including a woman- Shashikala Jolle and MLC Kota\nSrinivas Poojari, a few new faces and a few popular, the lingayat-heavy-cabinet\nwill take oath at 10:30 a.m. on 20 August. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has written a letter to\nGovernor Vajubhai Vala listing all 17 names to be inducted into the cabinet\nrequesting for them to be sworn in on 20 August morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>BJP MLAs Govind Karajol (Dalit), C N Ashwathnarayan\n(vokkaliga), Lakshman Savadi (Lingayat), R Ashok (Vokkaliga), Jagadish\nShettar(Lingayat), Sreeramulu (ST), Suresh Kumar (Brahmin), V Somanna\n(Lingayath), CT Ravi (Vokkaliga), Basavaraj Bommai (Lingayat), Madhuswamy\n(Lingayat), CC Patil (Lingayat), H Nagesh (SC), Prabhu Chavan (Lambani), Jolle\nShashi Kala (Lingayat), KS Eshwarappa (kuruba), Kota Srinivas poojary (ediga).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BSY team has got more Lingayath ministers, including\nYediyurappa himself. Eight other members will be from the same caste, followed\nby the Vokkaliga community where they have chosen three.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interestingly, most of these members are Yeddiyurappa&#8217;s\nloyalists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bengaluru gets four ministers, there is representation from\nBidar, Kolar, Shivamogga, Dakshina Kannada, Hubballi, Dharwad, Tumkur,\nBelagavi, Chitradurga and other places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karjol is expected to get Home portfolio, women and child\nwelfare, Kannada and culture ministry is likely to be allocated to Shashikala\nJolle, Backward classes welfare to Sreeramulu, Law and parliamentary affairs to\nJC Madhuswamy while Bommai is expected to receive water resources- a portfolio\nhe had earlier held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Name of BJP MLA from Mahadevapura constituency Aravind\nLimbavali is missing from the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sources from BJP said his name might be recommended for\nsaffron party&#8217;s state president post. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Karnataka can have a maximum of 34 Ministers, including the\nChief Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yediyurappa <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yediyurappa is an Indian\npolitician who is the Chief Minister of Karnataka and the Karnataka state\npresident of BJP.
