{"id":5043,"date":"2019-08-20T09:53:28","date_gmt":"2019-08-20T09:53:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=5043"},"modified":"2019-08-20T09:53:29","modified_gmt":"2019-08-20T09:53:29","slug":"vice-president-asks-indian-community-in-lithuania-to-strengthen-economic-and-cultural-ties-between-the-two-nations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/vice-president-asks-indian-community-in-lithuania-to-strengthen-economic-and-cultural-ties-between-the-two-nations\/","title":{"rendered":"Vice President asks Indian community in Lithuania to strengthen economic and cultural ties between the two nations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Vice President, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu called upon the Indian community in Lithuania to serve as a bridge in strengthening economic and cultural relations between the two countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing the Indian community at Vilnius, the capital of\nLithuania on the second day of his three nation tour to the Baltic region, he\nsaid the bilateral trade between the countries was below potential and added\nthat Lithuania could be an important technology partner for India, especially\nin areas such as lasers, renewable energy, agro-food processing and life\nsciences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Observing that India has become one of the fastest growing\nlarge economies in the world, he said the business sentiment following the\nnumerous initiatives implemented by the Government of India was positive and\nupbeat. \u201cThe New India\u2019s mantra is \u201cReform, Perform and Transform\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shri Naidu also stressed that India was one of the most open\neconomies of the world and is placed now at 77th rank among 190 countries in\nthe World Bank\u2019s Ease of Doing Business Index.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vice President said that the \u201cMake in India\u201d campaign\nwas establishing India as the hub of manufacturing and investment. He said that\n\u201cSmart Cities\u201d, \u201cDigital India\u201d and \u201cSkill India\u201d Missions were not only\ntransforming our nation but also providing immense opportunities to collaborate\nand work together. \u201cOur youth are driving the digital revolution, powering the\nstart-up ecosystem and pioneering artificial intelligence. The Start-up India\nflagship initiative is intended to build a strong Eco-system for nurturing\ninnovation and entrepreneurship in the country\u201d, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shri. Naidu said that India was making rapid strides in the\ndevelopment journey and has an ambitious plan to build next-generation\ninfrastructure including 100 Smart Cities, 10 green-field airports, 7\nhigh-speed train corridors, 5 major ports, highways and nation-wide broadband\nconnectivity linking our villages and urban areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vice President praised the Indian diaspora for acting as\na bridge to integrate the cultures of India and Lithuania. He told them to be\nconscious of the rich culture of their motherland and strive to spread India&#8217;s\nmessage of peace and goodwill, symbolized by the universal and timeless\nphilosophy of Vasudaiva Kutumbam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Appreciating the keen interest showed by Lithuania in Indian\nculture, philosophy, arts and spirituality, the Vice President described the\nmembers of the diaspora as India\u2019s cultural ambassadors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mentioning the technological progress made by India, Shri.\nNaidu referred to the successful launch of \u2018Chadrayaan 2\u2019, India\u2019s second\nmission to moon, which had been fully fabricated in India, last month. \u2018The\nmission is really a glowing testimony to the rapid advances the country has\nbeen making in Science and Technology in the last few years\u2019, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applauding the Vilnius University for being at the forefront\nin promoting Indology studies, including Hindi, the Vice President said that\ninterest in Indian philosophy, films and cuisine had risen phenomenally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shri. Naidu expressed his happiness that Lithuanian\nUniversities had become a destination of choice for Indian students whose\nnumbers increased significantly in recent years. He appealed to the young\nIndian students to be sensitive to local culture and sensitivities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Referring to the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi,\nthe Vice President said that Lithuania held a special place of importance\nbecause Gandhi ji\u2019s closest friend and soul mate, Hermann Kallenbach was from\nLithuania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He thanked the Government of Lithuania for commemorating\ntheir friendship by installing a sculpture of Gandhi and Kallenbach in Rusne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier, the Vice President visited the city of Kaunas and\nmet with the Mayor, Mr. Visvaldas Matijosaitis, who hosted a lunch to Shri\nNaidu and the Indian delegation. The Mayor also presented the \u2018Key to the City\u2019\nand \u2018The Coat of Arms of Lithuania\u2019, also known as Vytis, to the Vice\nPresident. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vice President also invited the Mayor to visit India\nwith business delegation to explore business opportunities between our two\ncountries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Vice President also visited the laboratory area of the\nInstitute of Material Sciences and the Ultra Sound Research Institute at the\nSantaka Valley of the Kaunas University of Technology in Kaunas.
