Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nRaksha Mantri described Indian Air Force as a\ntechnologically advanced and extremely potent force saying that the recent\noffensive against terror outfits in our neighbourhood speaks volumes about the\nreach and lethality of the formidable arm of the Armed Forces. Indian Air\nForce, besides Army and Navy, needs to keep pace with the advancements in\ntechnology for enhancing operational capabilities, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recalling Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi\u2019s call to\nmodernise our Armed Forces, Shri Rajnath Singh said efforts are being made to\nincrease the participation of the private sector in \u2018Make in India\u2019 in defence\nsector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Listing out the Government\u2019s initiatives to promote \u2018Make in\nIndia\u2019, Raksha Mantri said foreign investment up to 49 per cent was allowed\nthrough automatic route and up to 100 per cent under Government route on\ncase-to-case basis. He urged foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to\nestablish manufacturing facilities in India adding that a number of\nopportunities are available to foreign companies through FDI, Joint Ventures or\nthe defence offset route. Shri Rajnath Singh also said the process of defence\noffset implementation has been streamlined and one of the major demands of the\nindustry to reinstate the provision of services for discharge of offsets has\nnow been provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shri Rajnath Singh announced approval for use of test\nfacilities of government entities for the private industry to meet the best\nquality standards required for defence manufacturing. He said the decision to\nthis effect has been taken after incorporating the comments of the stakeholders\nparticularly indigenous defence manufacturers. Shri Rajnath Singh expressed\nhope that the synergy between government\u2019s efforts and industry participation\nwill help fulfil the long-cherished dream of making India a frontrunner in\ndefence production.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raksha Mantri added that comprehensive outsourcing and\nvendor development guidelines for DPSUs and OFB to promote participation of\nprivate sector, particularly MSMEs in defence production. He said\nindigenisation requirements of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), OFB, DPSUs,\nArmy, Air Force and Navy have also been hosted on Ministry of Defence (MoD)\nwebsite for the benefit of the private industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raksha Mantri said the defence products list for issuing\nindustrial licenses under Industry Development and Regulation (IDR) Act has\nbeen revised adding that it has reduced the entry barriers for the industry\nespecially the small and medium segment. The initial validity of Industrial license\nhas been increased from three years to fifteen years with a provision to\nfurther extend it by three years on a case-to-case basis, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shri Rajnath Singh also referred to the Technology\nDevelopment Fund (TDF) Scheme which has been established under the aegis of\nDefence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to promote self-reliance\nin Defence Technology as part of \u2018Make in India\u2019 initiative. He said the scheme\nwill encourage participation of public\/private industries especially MSMEs so\nas to create an ecosystem for enhancing cutting edge technology capability for\ndefence application.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his keynote address, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal\nBirender Singh Dhanoa pitched for inhouse manufacturing of defence equipment\nand called for finetuning the capabilities to meet the requirements. He said\nthere is a need to replace obsolete war-fighting equipment with indigenous\ntechnology and bridge technological gaps in the defence sector. The Air Force\nis always alert on the border irrespective if there is any movement or not, he\nadded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two books on indigenisation efforts of defence equipment\nwere also released on the occasion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
