Students and faculty stood in a human formation in front of the main building, outlining the shape of the new logo. However, most students were unhappy with the manner in which the logo was finalised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a three-hour online poll conducted by the student council\non Monday, 90 percent of 2,800 students said they did not want the new logo. A\ncommittee of professors worked on the logo with the branding company. They will\nalso be developing a brand manual. \u201cLot of engagement has happened with various\nstakeholders over the past two years but we could not reach out to everyone,\u201d\nsaid IISc director Prof Anurag Verma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Talking about the new logo, Kaushal Verma, in-charge of\nbranding committee said, \u201cThe old seal will remain on degree certificates,\ntranscripts and MoUs. The old crest has been modified.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the public discussion that followed the presentation of\nthe new logo, a student from the crowd said, \u201cAt least one representative from\nthe student council should have been consulted when the logo was finalised.\nThis is terribly discriminatory to the student population.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some said it was not appealing, pointing out its similarity\nto the logo used by a detergent brand. To express displeasure, one student was\nseen sporting a printout of the detergent company logo stuck onto his T-shirt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A student who did not wish to be named said, \u201cWe found out\nabout it when we saw some of the new students carrying ID cards with the logo.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Responding to complaints from the students in the audience,\nKaushal Verma said, \u201c800 students were e-mailed in July last year regarding the\nnew logo creation. We took inputs from as many stakeholders and went ahead.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When asked about plans of Indian Institute of Science to help students with their mental health, Director Prof Anurag Verma told the media on the sidelines of the event that two part-time psychiatrists and one full-time psychiatrist will be brought on board. \u201cEvery year, we plan to hold a week-long workshop in every department to address mental health as an issue.
