In the state, the scheme was\nlaunched on October 2, 2011.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NHM has initiated giving rankings as it is encouraging\nand supporting states to provide free drugs to patients coming to public health\nfacilities. NHM \u2014free drug service initiative has been implemented by ministry\nof health and family welfare (MoHFW) under which states\/UTs are being supported\nunder NHM to provide free drugs to patients coming to public health facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The initiative was taken aiming to reduce out of pocket\nexpenditure (OOPE) and improve footfalls in public facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the health department claimed that they are\nconstantly improving the existing free medicine scheme. \u201cWe have added 104 new\nmedicines in the list of drugs under free medicines scheme. Earlier, there were\n608 medicines, which have increased to 712,\u201d said Raghu Sharma, health\nminister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that they have added more medicines as they had\npromised in the election manifesto to strengthen the free medicine scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
