Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\nThe lump sum export subsidy will be provided for expenses on\nmarketing costs including handling, upgrading and other processing costs, costs\nof international and internal transport and freight charges on export of up to\n60 Lakh Metric Tonne (LMT) of sugar limited to Maximum Admissible Export\nQuantity (MAEQ) allocated to sugar mills for the sugar season 2019-20. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The subsidy would be directly credited into farmers\u2019 account\non behalf of mills against cane price dues and subsequent balance, if any,\nwould be credited to mill\u2019s account. [[The subsidy shall be in conformity with\nthe provisions of Article 9.1 (d) & (e) of Agreement on Agriculture (AoA)\nand thus WTO compatible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In wake of surplus sugar production during sugar season\n2017-18(October \u2013 September) and sugar season 2018-19, notwithstanding various\nmeasures taken by the Government, the ensuing sugar season 2019-20 is expected\nto commence with an opening stock of about 142 LMT and season end stock are\nexpected to be about 162 LMT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The surplus stock of\n162 LMT of sugar would create downward pressure throughout the season on sugar\nprices affecting liquidity of the sugar mills thereby leading to accumulation\nof cane price arrears of farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To deal with this situation, the Government has recently\ncreated buffer stock of 40 LMT of sugar for one year from 1st August, 2019.\nHowever, even after taking into account this buffer stocking of 40 LMT till\n31stJuly, 2020 and likely diversion of sugar by way of production of ethanol\nfrom B-heavy molasses\/cane juice during SS 2019-20 and requirement of\nnormativestock for two months, there shall be about 60 LMT of excess sugar\nstock that will need evacuation through export.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
