{"id":5581,"date":"2019-08-29T08:03:46","date_gmt":"2019-08-29T08:03:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/?p=5581"},"modified":"2019-08-29T08:03:47","modified_gmt":"2019-08-29T08:03:47","slug":"19-medals-at-worldskills-kazan-2019-for-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/19-medals-at-worldskills-kazan-2019-for-india\/","title":{"rendered":"19 Medals at WorldSkills Kazan 2019 for India"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Blazing a trail of glory for India at the global stage, the Indian Team returned with the best-ever finish at the WorldSkills International Competition 2019 in Kazan, Russia by winning 19 medals and Medallions of Excellence. The 48-member Indian team won one Gold, one Silver and two Bronze medals besides 15 Medallions of Excellence at the competition that ended with a spectacular closing ceremony at Kazan yesterday attended by the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With this historic triumph, Team India won hearts and set\nnew standards of skilling on the world stage. India finished 13th in the\noverall standings several notches up from the last time when it won 11 medals\nand finished in the 19th position at Abu Dhabi in 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>S Aswatha Narayana represented Odisha and won a Gold medal\nin Water Technology, he competed against 11 countries. He was also rewarded as\n\u2018Best of Nation\u2019 amongst the Indian competitors. Pranav Nutalapati represented\nKarnataka and won Silver Medal in Web Technologies after competing with 33\ncountries. Sanjoy Pramanik represented West Bengal and won the Bronze Medal in\nJewellery after competing against 16 countries. Shweta Ratanpura represented\nMaharashtra and won the Bronze medal in Graphic Designing after showcasing her\nskill against 35 countries. Shweta has also earned the distinction of being the\nonly female candidate to win a medal for India at WorldSkills Kazan 2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The competition has become a grand event in the arena of\nvocational skills with several contenders participating from across the globe.\nThis year\u2019s challenge witnessed an increased participation with more than 1,350\nCompetitors from 63 countries and regions who competed in 56 skills to win\nprestigious medals. The competition was extreme and by returning with 19\nmedals, Team India has started a new chapter in the history of vocational\nskills. This does not only prove the talent of the team but showcases their\nstrong dedication and commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulating the Indian team on their performance, Dr.\nMahendra Nath Pandey, Hon\u2019ble Minister of Skill Development and\nEntrepreneurship said, \u201cIt is a moment of great pride and joy for every Indian\ntoday. Congratulations to Team India on this historic triumph and for\npresenting a brilliant show. This win will be an inspiration to many other\nyoung Indians who will soon become a part of the skilling ecosystem. The\nwinners and their experts will be rewarded as a token of appreciation for their\nhard work and sincerity that has brought laurels to the nation. Personally, it\nhas been a moment of great pride, being a part of this competition and witness\nthe scale and standards at which India competed at WorldSkills 2019. The event\nis truly the \u2018Olympics of Skills\u2019. This victory takes us a step closer to\nfulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s vision of \u2018Skilled India\u2019. I wish all\nthe luck to the participants for their future endeavors and would also like to\nextend my gratitude to all the partners who made it possible for the Indian\nyouth to make a global mark.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister was in Kazan last week to encourage the team at\nthe competition. During his visit, he inaugurated the India Pavillion for\nrepresentatives from other countries, including the industry to interact with\nthe participants and avail of information about India and the potential of its\nworkforce. In fact, India\u2019s unique demographic dividend stood out in the\nMinister\u2019s address at a Summit of Government representatives from 40 countries\nwhere he made a strong case for the country as a hub for recruiting skilled and\ntalented workforce across industries. Learning-on-the-job, an important pillar\nof the Skill India Mission that envisages creating a technically equipped\nworkforce ready on take on the challenges of Industry 4.0, was the thrust of\nDr. Pandey\u2019s speech in which he highlighted the potential India held in a young\nand eager population. Dr. Pandey\u2019s appeal drawing attention to this potential\nwas met with a standing ovation by all countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shri Rajesh Agrawal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Skill\nDevelopment and Entrepreneurship, who was at Kazan as an official delegate\nexpressed his delight and said, \u201cWe are honored to see Team India bring home a\nGold Medal, a Silver Medal, two Bronze Medals along with 15 Medallions of\nExcellence from WorldSkills 2019, Kazan, Russia. The youth of the country\nshould take great inspiration from the commitment and the determination with\nwhich Team India defined new limits and proved their mettle against many\nnations like China, Russia, Japan and the likes. Congratulations to the other\nparticipants too for having embodied the true spirit of participation and\ngiving it their best. All of them have shown that India has a young and\ncompetent workforce ready to define new limits. I would also like to thank all\nthe individuals and the corporates who were involved with the participants and\nmade this win possible.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Echoing similar sentiments, Dr. Manish Kumar, Managing\nDirector and CEO, National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), said, \u201c\nCongratulations to all the winners, especially to Aswatha Narayana, on winning\nIndia\u2019s first gold medal. I thank the Ministry of Skill Development &amp;\nEntrepreneurship, state governments and industry leaders for their support to\nWorldskills and providing candidates with the opportunities to excel in this\ncompetition. Special thanks to Mr. Sanjib Rout and his team at the CV Raman\nInstitute, Odisha, for the role they played as an institution in bringing home\nthe first gold medal for India. It is my hope that more institutions will come\nforward to support the next round of Worldskills competitions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Experts of the winners and the participants were an integral\npart of the competition and continued supporting the contenders in their\nrespective skills. They played a critical role in Team India\u2019s win and to\nachieve this milestone would not have been possible without their devoted\ninvolvement. S Aswatha Narayana who won Gold in Water Technology was trained by\nRajat Kumar Samantaray, Professor, CV Raman Institute, Bhubaneswar, Pranav\nNutalapati who won Silver in Web Technologies was trained by Ruchi Pareek,\nTechnical Director, Smalt &amp; Beryl, Sanjoy Pramanik won Bronze in Jewellery\nand was trained by Anupam Karmakar, Creative Head, Vummidi Bangaru Jewellers\nand Shweta Ratanpura who won Bronze in Graphic Designing, was trained by\nNarayanan Sathish, Founder, Design Media, Pune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About WorldSkills India<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>WorldSkills India is an initiative of the National Skill\nDevelopment Corporation (NSDC) under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development\nand Entrepreneurship (MSDE), which has been leading India&#8217;s participation at\nWorldSkills International competitions since 2011. This was done to create an\naspiration around the pursuit of skills training in our country and benchmark\nthe skillsets of our youth against their counterparts in other parts of the\nworld.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About WorldSkills Competitions<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Every two years WorldSkills hosts the world skills\ncompetition which attracts more than 1,300 Competitors from more than 60\ncountries.
