The order further read that
wearing of jeans and T-shirts is against the office decorum.

The ban on T-shirts and jeans is for all employees in the
secretariat regardless of the rank they hold. The
department had instructed its employees to wear only formal dress and not
jeans, t-shirts, sleeveless dresses, corduroy pants or even trousers with
multiple pockets during office hours and official functions of the Directorate.
The ban was imposed to maintain ‘decorum’ in office premises.

The Rajasthan Labour department had also banned its
employees from wearing jeans and t-shirts in June 2018. The department had
issued instructions to its employees to not come to the office wearing
“indecent” dresses such as jeans and T-shirts. A circular specifying
the dress code was issued on June 21, 2018.

The circular stated that all employees and officers in the
department will be expected to come to the office wearing decent clothes like
pants and shirt. The main reason given by the department for enforcing the
formal dress code was to maintain office decorum. The move had invited
criticism from the state’s employees’ federation.

The Bihar Government has imposed a ban on wearing of jeans & t-shirts by the employees in the state secretariat.
