Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot presided over the function. Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar and Secretary, M\/o SJ&amp;E Smt. Neelam Sawhney were also present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gkseries.com\/blog\/current-affairs-quiz-2019-daily-gk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Daily Current Affairs Quiz 2019<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Addressing on the\noccasion, the President said that our youth should understand that the older\npersons and senior citizens are our asset and accord them their due respect. He\ncalled upon people to adopt the ideals of Joint family culture and to create an\natmosphere of togetherness under the guidance of older family members. He\ncongratulated the Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment and officers of\nthe Ministry for such a valuable awards for older persons, senior citizens and\ninstitutions working towards the cause of elderly persons. He said that\nAayushman Bharat and many savings schemes of the government are very beneficial\nand helpful to the older persons and senior citizens. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his address, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot said that the Ministry of Social Justice &amp; Empowerment felicitates\nsenior citizens and older persons by conferring \u2018Vayoshreshtha Samman\u2019 every\nyear on the eminent senior citizens and institutions in many categories in\nrecognition of their services towards the cause of the elderly persons. Two\nyears ago, the Ministry has started \u201cRashtriya Vayoshri Yojana\u201d under which physical\naids and assistive living devices viz. wheel chairs, hearing aids, spectacles,\nsupport sticks etc are distributed to the older persons of Below Poverty Line\ncategory. Vayoshreshtha Samman are intended to show case the\nGovernment&#8217;s concern for senior citizens and its commitment towards them with\nthe aim of strengthening their legitimate place in the society, he added. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar in his opening remarks\nsaid that the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has initiated many new\nprogrammes and schemes for the welfare of senior citizens and is committed to\nthe overall welfare of older persons and senior citizens. \u2018Vayoshreshtha\nSamman\u2019 is intended to provide an opportunity to the younger generation\nto understand the contribution of the elderly persons in building of the\nsociety and the nation.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vayoshreshtha\nSamman is a Scheme of awards instituted by the Ministry of Social Justice &amp;\nEmpowerment and gradually upgraded to the status of National Awards, for\ninstitutions involved in rendering distinguished service for the cause of\nelderly persons especially indigent senior citizens and to eminent citizens in\nrecognition of their service\/achievements. These awards are presented as part\nof the celebration of the International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) which is\ncelebrated every year on 1<sup>st <\/sup>October. The awards are intended to be\nconferred on eminent senior citizens and institutions involved in rendering\ndistinguished services for the cause of elderly persons especially indigent\nsenior citizens. The recipients are drawn from diverse fields. The Awards are\ngiven to institutions\/organisations\/individuals from any part of the country.\nNominations are invited from Governmental and Non-Governmental Agencies.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As per the Scheme,\nnominations are invited from Ministries\/Departments of the Government of India\nand their autonomous organisations; State Governments\/UT Administrations; past\nrecipients of Padma Award; Vayoshreshtha Samman and other National Awards in\nboth individual and institutional categories; Members of the National Council\nfor Senior Citizens; Renowned Apex Chambers like FICCI, CII, ASSOCHAM, NASSCOM,\nPHDCCI etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>LIST OF AWARDEES IN DIFFERENT CATEGORIES OF THE AWARD<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>INSTITUTIONAL CATEGORY<\/strong>:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1<\/strong>. <strong>Best Institution for Research in the field of Ageing<\/strong>: <strong>Central\nCouncil for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, New Delhi.<\/strong> The award is given to institutions with a record of\noutstanding work in research and dissemination of knowledge in the field of\nageing.&nbsp; The award carries a citation, memento and cash award of Rs.5\nlakhs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2<\/strong>. <strong>Best Institution for providing services to Senior Citizens and\nAwareness Generation<\/strong>: <strong>Gandhi Bhawan International Trust, Kollam, Kerala.<\/strong> The award is given to institutions with a record of\nproviding services to the elderly, especially indigent senior citizens.&nbsp;\nThe award carries a citation, memento and cash award of Rs.5 lakhs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3<\/strong>. <strong>Best District Panchayat in providing services and facilities to\nSenior Citizens<\/strong><strong>:\nDistrict Panchayat, Panna, Madhya Pradesh.<\/strong> The award is given to the district Panchayats, which\nhave done outstanding work for senior citizens.&nbsp;&nbsp; The award carries a\ncitation, memento and cash award of Rs.10 lakhs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>4<\/strong>. <strong>Best Urban Local Body in providing services and facilities to\nSenior Citizens<\/strong>: <strong>Municipal Council, Unhel, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh.<\/strong> The award is given to municipal bodies, which have\ndone outstanding work for senior citizens.&nbsp; The award carries a citation,\nmemento and cash award of Rs.10 lakhs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5. Best State in implementing the Maintenance and Welfare of\nparents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, and providing services and facilities to\nSenior Citizens:<\/strong> &nbsp;<strong>The State of Tamil Nadu.<\/strong> The award is given to the State or Union Territories which has taken a\nlead in implementing various provisions of the Act and has highest percentage\nof settlement of claims of maintenance or best security programme for\nelderly.&nbsp; The award carries a Citation and a Memento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>6<\/strong>. <strong>Best\nPublic Sector Organisation in promoting the wellbeing and welfare of Senior\nCitizens<\/strong>: <strong>Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO).<\/strong> The award is given to Public Sector Undertakings\nundertaking service to the community through activities under corporate social\nresponsibility and also through programmes for retired employees.&nbsp; The\naward carries a Citation and a Memento.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>INDIVIDUAL CATEGORY:<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>7.<\/strong> <strong>Centenarian\nAward<\/strong>:<strong> Shri Ishwarchandra Chintamani (Age-93 years.). <\/strong>The award is given to renowned individuals who are\nabove ninety years and are still physically active, independent and\ncontributing to the society.&nbsp; The award carries a citation, memento and\ncash award of Rs.2.5 lakhs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>8.<\/strong>&nbsp; <strong>Iconic\nMother Award<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> <strong>(a)\nMs. Sharada Yashwant Date and (b) Ms. Urmila Sharma.<\/strong> The award is given to women senior citizens who in the\nface of great odds, brought up their children and supported them in being high\nachievers in the field of their choice.&nbsp; The award carries a citation,\nmemento and cash award of Rs.2.5 lakhs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>9<\/strong>.&nbsp; <strong>Lifetime\nAchievement Award<\/strong><strong>:\nShri Chhajuram Sharma.<\/strong> The award\nis given to senior citizens, preferably above seventy years, who have worked in\nthe field of ageing and made significant contribution in the field.&nbsp; The\naward carries a citation, memento and cash award of Rs.2.5 lakhs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>10. Creative Art\nAward<\/strong>:<strong> Ms. Eli Ahmad. <\/strong>The\naward is given to the winners of national\/international acclaim for their\ncontribution to literature, theatre, cinema, music, dance, painting, sculpture,\nphotography, etc. and who continue to be active in their field well into their\nold age.&nbsp; The award carries a citation, memento and cash award of Rs.2.5\nlakhs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>11. Sports and\nAdventure Award<\/strong> (<strong>one each for Male and Female<\/strong>): <strong>(a)<\/strong> <strong>Ms. Anandini Darjee (Female) and (b) Shri. Hardev Singh (Male).<\/strong> The award is given to senior citizens who have won\ninternational acclaim and who continue to contribute in the field of sports and\nadventure.&nbsp; The award carries a citation, memento and cash award of Rs.2.5\nlakhs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>12. Courage &amp; Bravery Award<\/strong> (<strong>one\neach for Male and Female<\/strong>): <strong>(a)<\/strong> <strong>Dr.\n(Smt.) Shashi Trivedi (Female) and (b) Shri Prem Singh (Male).<\/strong> The award is given to senior citizens who have\ndisplayed extra ordinary courage in the face of grave danger.&nbsp; The award\ncarries a citation, memento and cash award of Rs.2.5 lakhs.
