The Government of India\u2019s top priority is to put the farmers\u2019 concerns and rural development on a larger landscape, said Union Minister for Finance & Corporate Affairs Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, while speaking at the inauguration of the 6th\u00a0World Congress on Rural and Agriculture Finance jointly organised by National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and Asia – Pacific Rural Agricultural and Credit Association (APRACA) on 13 November, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government is looking at acknowledging huge dependence on\nrural life and agriculture and further emphasised on the immediate need for\ntaking up water management and water-related stress points. Government also\nenumerated benefits of soil health cards provided to farmers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While talking about energy security, the Finance Minister\nsaid that there is a need for the farmers contributing in solar energy\ngeneration, participation in wind energy, installing solar panels in his farms,\netc. and also to become an Urjadaata from Annadata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Finance Minister also directed NABARD to take up\nimmediate and necessary steps to extend support to the farmers in the states of\nJammu and Kashmir and Ladakh; so that the next crop of saffron, peaches,\nwalnuts and other agriculture produce in the state is procured at the right\ntime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The representatives of banks and financial institutions from\nover 40 countries such as China, Nepal, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, etc.\nhave gathered in New Delhi to deliberate on the subject of Rural and\nAgriculture Finance: Critical Input to Achieve Inclusive and Sustainable\nDevelopment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

APRACA, representing 81 member institutions from 21\ncountries, is a regional association that promotes cooperation and facilitates\nmutual exchange of information and expertise in the field of rural finance.\nOver the years it has developed a repository of knowledge in managing and\nserving rural financial institutions, financial inclusion and to help avert\nfinancial risks and improve efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
