Purandare (99) was an authority on the Maratha warrior king\u00a0Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Purandare was awarded Padma Vibhushan,\u00a0India\u2019s second-highest civilian award in 2019. India has successfully launched the 41st Scientific Expedition to Antarctica with the arrival of the first batch of its contingent at the southern white continent. Four more batches shall be landing in Antarctica by air using the DROMLAN facility and onboard chartered ice-class vessel MV Vasiliy Golovnin by mid-January 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The team of 48 members<\/strong> at the 41st expedition is being led by Dr. Shailendra Saini, Scientist National Centre for Polar & Ocean Research (Voyage Leader), and Shri. AnoopKalayilSoman, scientist Indian Institute of Geomagnetism (Leader, Bharati Station).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Indian Antarctic program began in 1981 and has completed 40 scientific expeditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The central government has inked a pact with multi-lateral funding agency Asian Development Bank for USD 61 million (around Rs 454 crore) loan to fund development projects in Agartala, Tripura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
