The biggest cultural extravaganza of Nagaland,\u00a0the Hornbill Festival\u00a0has kicked off with colorful renditions of traditional music, dances, and contemporary in one roof at Naga Heritage village Kisama. It is the\u00a022nd edition of the Hornbill festival\u00a0and will be celebrated in\u00a06 districts of Nagaland. It was held for the first time in\u00a02000. The opening ceremony culminated with the flight of the Hornbill- A musical presentation by Task Force for Music and Arts Nagaland. More than 282,800 people visited the festival during the 20th edition in 2019, including over 3,000 foreign tourists and at least 55,500 domestic visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

\"\u2018Naoroji:<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Dinyar Patel has won The New India Foundation\u2019s fourth Kamaladevi Chattopadhyay NIF Book Prize 2021 for Naoroji: Pioneer of Indian Nationalism<\/em>, a biography of one of modern India\u2019s most significant figures. The bookmarked the life events and legacy of Dada Bhai Naoroji.<\/strong> It also contains the historical background of India\u2019s National Movement during the 19th century.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The winning book was selected on the basis of a jury\u2019s decision chaired by political scientist Niraja Gopal Jayal, Nandan Nilekani and Manish Sabharwal, and historians Srinath Raghavan and Nayanjot Lahiri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

\"Sanjeev<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Haryana\u2019s 1986-batch IAS officer, Sanjeev Kaushal, has been appointed as the state\u2019s new chief secretary after the superannuation of his predecessor 1985-batch officer, Vijai Vardhan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to this, he worked with Centre as Joint Secretary of two state governments, two large PSUs as Managing Director, and also the largest Municipal Corporation of Haryana as the Chief Administrator of Faridabad Complex. P K Das (1986 batch IAS)\u00a0has also been appointed as\u00a0Additional Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner (Revenue).<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

The Vice-Chancellor of Telangana State Agricultural University Dr. V. Praveen Rao<\/strong> won the 7th M. S. Swaminathan Award<\/strong> for the 2017-19 year. He received the Dr. M. S. Swaminathan Award for his contributions in the fields of Agricultural Research, Teaching, Extension, and Administration. Praveen Rao handled 13 research and 6 consultancy projects on micro-irrigation in India, Israel and South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a biennial national (every 2 years) award that was presented by the retired ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) Employees Association (RICAREA) and Nuziveedu Seeds Limited. It carries a cash prize of\u00a0INR 2 lakh<\/strong>\u00a0and a citation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

\"Smriti<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Indian Institute of Technology Madras incubated startup ropes in Indian women\u2019s cricketer Smriti Mandhana as its brand ambassador. She will be the face of GUVI and will feature across the online campaigns to strengthen the importance & scope of technological education & IT skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She will create awareness about technological education among everyone, especially among women. \"Veteran<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Veteran Telugu film lyricist \u2018Sirivennela\u2019 Sitarama Sastry, a recipient of the Padma Shri and numerous other awards, died due to lung cancer-related complications at a private hospital. He was 66. He was born on May 20th, 1955<\/strong> in Anakapalle village in Visakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh. He launched his first song in the film, \u2018Janani Janmabhoomi\u2019 directed by K Viswanath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1986 the movie \u2018Sirivennela\u2019 directed by K Viswanath made him famous and also gave him a second name as \u2018Sirivennela\u2019 Seetharama Sastry. He got the first \u2018Nandi Award for best lyricist for \u2018Sirivennela\u2019, presented by the Andhra Pradesh state government. Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist- Telugu, Padma Shri (2019) and He won \u2018Nandi\u2019 Awards several times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

India<\/strong> has joined \u2018G20 Troika\u2019<\/strong> and will work closely with Indonesia and Italy to ensure consistency and continuity of G20\u2019s agenda.<\/strong> Apart from India, Troika consists of Indonesia and Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Troika: It refers to the top grouping within G20 that consists of the current, previous, and incoming presidencies (Indonesia, Italy, and India).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

India will assume G20 Presidency in December 2022\u00a0from Indonesia and will convene the G20 Leaders\u2019 Summit for the first time in 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) announced that it will roll out its 4G services across India by September 2022. The state-owned telecom company will see around Rs. 900 crore revenue increment in the first year of the rollout, parliament was informed on December 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Govt has approved revival plan for BSNL and MTNL with the administrative allotment of spectrum for providing 4G services with funding through budgetary allocation. BSNL has already begun the necessary processes to go for 4G tender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

The Omicron Covid-19 variant, which was discovered in southern Africa last month, has now spread to as many as 23 countries, the director-general of World Health Organisation (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per WHO, the mix of low vaccination coverage and low testing rates are creating a fertile breeding ground for new Covid variants. Blanket travel bans will not prevent the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus and they place a heavy burden on lives and livelihoods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
