Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the Saryu Nahar National Project in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh. The Saryu Canal National Project will provide assured water for irrigation to over 14 lakh hectares of land and benefit about 29 lakh farmers, mainly in eastern Uttar Pradesh. Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Minister for Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya were among those present at the project inauguration programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the project:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • The project has been completed at a cost of over\u00a0\u20b99,800 crore, out of which more than\u00a0\u20b94,600 crore was provisioned in the last 4 years.<\/li>
  • The project will cater to the problem of water shortage mainly in eastern UP\/ Purvanchal with assured water for irrigation.<\/li>
  • The Saryu canal project also involves the interlinking of five rivers \u2014 Ghaghara, Saryu, Rapti, Banganga and Rohini \u2014 to ensure optimum usage of water resources of the region.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n\n

    The Geographical Indications Registry (GIR)<\/strong> under the Central ministry of commerce has accepted the plea to rename Bihar Makhana as Mithila Makhana and also suggested further amendments in the brand logo to better reflect its origins apart from identifying and protecting the product\u2019s Geographical Indications (GI) rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Sabour based Bihar Agriculture University (BAU)<\/strong> initiated an application on behalf of the Mithilanchal Makhana Utpadak Sangh (MMUS) to name their produce as Mithila Makhana for the welfare of fox nut growers in the Mithila region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Maharashtra<\/strong> has topped the list of states with the maximum number of beneficiaries under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana (ABRY),<\/strong> followed by Tamil Nadu<\/strong> and Gujarat.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      As on December 4, 2021, as many as 6,49,560 beneficiaries were recorded in Maharashtra, followed by Tamil Nadu (5,35,615), Gujarat (4,44,741) and Karnataka (3,07,164), Minister of State for Labour & Employment Rameswar Teli said in written reply to Lok Sabha. In Maharashtra, the beneficiaries have been provided with a total of Rs 409.72 crore under the scheme to new employees of 17,524 establishments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      The government had launched ABRY to incentivize employment generation in Employees\u2019 Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) registered establishments during COVID-19 for a period from\u00a0October 1, 2020, to March 31, 2022.<\/strong>\u00a0This scheme, being implemented through the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), reduces the financial burden of the employers of various sectors\/industries and encourages them to hire more workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
