Deposits in bank accounts opened under the Jan Dhan scheme, launched about seven and half years ago by the government, have crossed the Rs 1.5 lakh crore mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The total balance in accounts under the Jan Dhan scheme was recorded at Rs 1,50,939.36 crore as on\u00a0December-end 2021.\u00a0<\/strong>As per the finance ministry data, of the total 44.23 crore accounts, 34.9 crore were with the public sector banks, 8.05 crore with regional rural banks, and the rest 1.28 crore with private sector banks. RuPay Debit Cards were issued to 31.28 crore PMJDY beneficiaries under this scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The young Uzbekistan GM Nodirbek Abdusattorov<\/strong> has won the 2021 FIDE World Rapid Chess Championship.<\/strong> Nodirbek Abdusattorov won the World Rapid Chess Championship 2021 in Warsaw at the age of 17 on December 28, becoming the youngest World Rapid Chess Champion in the history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile the\u00a0Women\u2019s World Rapid Chess Championship title has been won by GM\u00a0Alexandra Kosteniuk of Russia.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Former RBI Governor Urjit Patel Appointed as Vice President of Beijing-based AIIB<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Urjit Patel has been appointed as a vice-president of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB)for a period of 3 years, a Beijing-based multilateral development bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Mr Patel will be one of the\u00a0five Vice Presidents of the AIIB<\/strong>.\u00a0He is expected to take charge from February 2022. He will succeed outgoing Vice President D J Pandian, who is in charge of sovereign and non-sovereign lending of the AIIB in South Asia, the Pacific Islands and South-East Asia.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated Kalpana Chawla Centre for Research in Space Science & Technology at Chandigarh University<\/strong> on January 10, 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Named after India-born astronaut Kalpana Chawla, who lost her life in the 2003 Columbia shuttle disaster, Rajnath said that this research facility would touch new heights of success, similar to the remarkable achievements of the late India-born astronaut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The centre will train students in space science, satellite development and meeting future challenges in space research. The Minister also launched a Scholarship Scheme, worth Rs 10 crore, for the wards of Defence Personnel of the three Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      British publisher HarperCollins announced that it has acquired rights to publish the authorized biography of Tata Sons chairman emeritus Ratan Tata\u2019s. The book will be released in all formats in November 2022. The biography is penned by a former senior bureaucrat and retired IAS officer Dr. Thomas Matthew.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      It will be published by HarperCollins. The book chronicles around the 84-year-old Ratan Tata\u2019s childhood, college years, and early influences, among other things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
